The Bad Seed, a review by Danae Cassandra

The Bad Seed
Year of Release: 1956
Directed By: Mervyn LeRoy
Starring: Patty McCormack, Nancy Kelly, Evelyn Varden, Henry Jones, Eileen Heckart
Genre: Suspense/Thriller, Horror

Overview:My Thoughts:
This was a really good film. The performances were all really top-notch. Though Patty McCormick impressive's, given her age when the film was made, it's really hard to single out any of the actors as standing out. They're all great, from the smarmy caretaker, to the distraught Mrs. Daigle, to the increasingly troubled Christine.

This is mostly a thriller with film noir stylings, though the horror lies both in Rhoda's actions and the idea of a child simply being born evil. Were it to end where it should, it would be true horror. However, Hays Code restrictions tack on an unnecessary epilogue after the hospital scene. The film should end at the hospital, and that it doesn't undermines the horror of the film. The fact that the rest of the film is so very excellent is really marred by that, but I'd still recommend it as an excellent old-school horror.

My Thoughts:
After all the people that recommended this one (on and off this site) I thought I should pop this one in next. My main concern in this movie is that it is Robin Williams... but in a drama? I believe I remember seeing him in another drama and enjoyed him in it... but was that a fluke? But I must say after watching this movie it was no fluke! He was just fantastic in this one... no way around it... he can act! Matt Damon is excellent in this one as well. This is a very good story that I enjoyed quite a bit. But I must admit that some scenes were a little slow for my taste. I know it is the kind of story it is... but there was a couple times I caught my attention slipping. Even so... the movie always pulled my attention back before too long.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

Tom's Buffy and Angel Marathon, a review by Tom

08. Lover's Walk (1998-11-24)
Writer: Joss Whedon (Created By), Dan Vebber (Writer)
Director: David Semel
Cast: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy Summers), Nicholas Brendon (Xander Harris), Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase), David Boreanaz (Angel), Seth Green (Oz), Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), Kristine Sutherland (Joyce Summers), Harry Groener (Mayor Richard Wilkins), James Marsters (Spike), Jack Plotnick (Deputy Mayor), Marc Burnham (Lenny), Suzanne Krull (Clerk)

I always loved this episode. Spike's return to Sunnydale mirroring his first appearence only this time at a low point of this life. Spike's crying on Willow's shoulder
Making us believe Cordelia died when showing a funeral but then when the camera gets to Buffy and Willow we find out, that Cordelia is okay.
And then concluding with Spike in high spirit again (singing the Sid Vicious version of "My Way"), but with anyone else arriving at a low point.
