OverviewAliens are everywhere, and they're attacking planet Earth in one of Ray Harryhausen's most amazing stop-motion sci-fi classics. Dr. Russell Marvin (Hugh Marlowe) works for Operation Sky Hook, a governement task force sending rockets into space to probe for future space flights. But when the rockets begin mysteriously disappearing, Dr. Marvin investigates along with his wife Carol (Joan Taylor), only to find the rockets are being intercepted by an army of space aliens who give humanity an ultimatum: loyality or death! As the aliens begin attacking cities and landmarks across the Earth - including an unforgettable assult on Washington D.C. - it's up to Dr. Marvin and his wife to figure out how to stop these diabolical creatures before it's too late.
My thoughtsI hate to say it, but Earth vs. the Flying Saucers is possibly my least favorite Harryhausen movie. I might even have liked it more if Harryhausen hadn't been involved in it.

The reason is that I think Harryhausen's efforts were pretty much wasted on the movie. There was nothing in the saucers themselves that needed or warranted animation. The spinning motion could easily have been accomplished by other mechanical means.

The saucers crashing into various buildings and monuments was interesting, but such crashes usually means falling debris, which is extremely difficult to get to look realistic using stop motion. It almost always screams "fake", even when Harryhausen does it.

In addition, the aliens don't seem to have any kind of plan. They just fly around Washington shooting randomly at various buildings, waiting for the humans to pick them off with their hastily constructed weapons.

So, I'm sorry, but I have a real hard time getting excited about this film. I know many others love it, but i just don't.
My ratingA magnanimous 3 out of 5

Stephen King's Thinner, a review by addicted2dvd

Sunday Mini-Marathon
Unwatched DVDs
The past couple days has really been hectic for me... so I didn't get to watch much of anything. But today I am free so thought I would at least watch a few movies. Whatever I can fit in anyway. Since I will only be able to get a few in... thought I should at least try to get some of my unwatched shelf cleared off to make room for the new DVDs coming. So today I watched...

Stephen King's Thinner
Based on the best-seller, 'Stephen King's Thinner' stars Robert John Burke ('RoboCop 3', 'Tombstone') and Joe Mantegna ('Bugsy', 'The Godfather III') in a story of supernatural terror and a countdown to the ultimate payback. A 109-year-old gypsy, hell-bent on revenge, exacts a curse so shocking it compels its victim to gorge himself in an effort to avoid shrinking away to nothingness. With time running out and a torture so bizarre and powerful, even death seems a more likely option.

My Thoughts:
As big of a Stephen King fan I am... I don't know why it took me so long to get this movie... but I have only had it for a week or so as of now. Even though this isn't the best of his movies I have seen... I still enjoyed it. It was definitely worth the few bucks I paid for it. That is one plus for waiting so long... I got it very cheap. There was only a couple extras on this release. A featurette and a commentary track... neither of which I checked out yet.

NCIS Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

NCIS: Season 3: Disc 6

21. BLOODBATH
Abby (Pauley Perrette) is almost killed by key evidence in her lab. Gibbs and the NCIS team quickly find that someone from her past wants her dead.

My Thoughts:
This is another of my favorites. An excellent episode. Of course I love the episodes about the adorable goth Abbey. This one is really disturbing... her stalker ex-boyfriend is in a league of his own. I enjoyed this episode so much that I had to watch it immediately again so I could watch it with the Commentary on (Cast Commentary with Pauley Perrettte [Abbey] and Michael Weatherly [DiNozzo]).

My Rating:

22. JEOPARDY
A suspect dies while iN Ziva's custody. The suspect's brother kidnaps Jenny and demands the release of his brother, whom he doesn't know is dead.

My Thoughts:
Another really good episode. I always like the ones where the main cast is in trouble. And this time not one... but two of the newest cast members in trouble. In this episode they did a good job of combining two storylines into one good one.

My Rating:

23. HIATUS (PART 1)
Gibbs is seriously injured in an explosion. While in the hospital he recalls his painful past. Tony is left in charge, which causes resentment among the NCIS team.

My Thoughts:
The start of a very good 2-part season finale. Though I have found while it is a very good story... I tend to drift away from the story after watching it multiple times.

My Rating:

24. HIATUS (PART 2)
Following the bomb explosion, Gibbs struggles to piece, together his memories of the past 15 years. Meanwhile, the NCIS team tries to prevent a terrorist group from carrying out another 9/11-magnitude bombing.

My Thoughts:
A good conclusion to the last episode. And it has an unexpected ending. A good way to end a season... but not really my favorite season finale.

My Rating:
