Homecoming, a review by addicted2dvd

Homecoming
It's a few weeks before the Presidential election and an unpopular war still rages overseas. But when the Republican administration wishes that our dead troops could return to tell America how proud they were to serve their country, veterans begin to rise from their flag-draped coffins for the most horrific reason of all: to vote. Are they gloriously resurrected heroes or brain-dead zombie dissidents? And even if the administration can devise the proper spin in time to steal their re-election, will an army of men and women killed for a lie finally show our nation the true face of hell?

'Jon Tenney' (THE CLOSER), 'Thea Gill (QUEER AS FOLK) and 'Robert Picardo' (STAR TREK: VOYAGER) star in this provocative stunner from director 'Joe Dante' (GREMLINS, THE HOWLING, PIRANHA) that 'The Village Voice' calls "jaw-dropping...easily one of the most important political films of the era!"

My Thoughts:
This episode has a touch of comedy... as well as a strong mixture of politics. I liked this episode a lot. It is fun to watch and thought provoking at the same time. A really strong episode well worth the hour you put into it. The effects on this episode was done well... without being overly gory. Just like the episodes before it... the quality is good and the DVD is loaded with extras.

For those interested... here is the trailer

The Fly II, a review by addicted2dvd

The Fly II
Eric Stoltz delivers a terrifically well-metered performance as an ill-fated scientist's son who may share his father's fate. Martin Brundle (Stoltz) has experienced an accelerated growth rate since he first came into this world. But that's nothing compared to the change he undergoes when he falls for a beautiful researcher (Daphne Zuniga), and his hormones run amok...turning him into a walking nightmare!

My Thoughts:
This is another one I only seen the one time before... when it first came out on VHS. It is a good continuation to the first one. But I don't think it was as good of a movie. John Getz returned as Stathis (the guy that got his hand and foot dissolved. It is a shame they didn't get Geena Davis to return for Martin's mother... even if it only would have been the one scene.

The movie itself was done much like the first one. It starts off slow... more story oriented. But then comes to life with horror in the last half an hour. The last 30 minutes does contain a fair amount of gore as well. Over-all it was a good horror movie... but I have seen better.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

Tom's Buffy and Angel Marathon, a review by Tom

03. Witch (1997-03-17)
Writer: Joss Whedon (Created By), Dana Reston (Writer)
Director: Stephen Cragg
Cast: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy Summers), Nicholas Brendon (Xander Harris), Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase), Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), Kristine Sutherland (Joyce Summers), Elizabeth Anne Allen (Amy), Robin Riker (Catherine), Jim Doughan (Mr. Pole), Nicole Prescott (Lishanne), Amanda Wilmshurst (Senior Cheerleader), William Monaghan (Dr. Gregory)

This belongs to my least favorite episodes of the first season. Though I liked the resolution to the story.
Also I would have liked to see Amy more often. Sadly she came not back often and when she did, she was there to be a bad influence on Willow in later seasons.

04. Teacher's Pet (1997-03-24)
Writer: Joss Whedon (Created By), David Greenwalt (Writer)
Director: Bruce Seth Green
Cast: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy Summers), Nicholas Brendon (Xander Harris), Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase), Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), David Boreanaz (Angel), Ken Lerner (Principal Flutie), Musetta Vander (Miss Natalie French), Jackson Price (Blaine), Jean Speegle Howard (Real Miss French), William Monaghan (Dr. Gregory), Jack Knight (Homeless Guy), Michael Ross Verona (Teacher), Karim Oliver (Bud #1)

Probably my least favorite episode of all. Stupid story with no real coherence. No funny jokes which could save the episode.

How did Buffy come to the conclusion that Ms. French is an insect? "Oh, I saw her turning her head 180 degrees. She must be an insect!", "I looked a little into insect books. Of what I have read, she must be a Praying Mantis! Those clothes she's wearing is the final proof for this!"
How convenient that there is a strange vampire around who can sense Ms. French from outside her house. But why did he run up to her the first time around and only when she looked at him, he went running?

The final shot they're hinting that a She-Mantis could be back for another time. Boy am I glad that they never followed up on this!
