Iron Man 3, a review by Danae Cassandra

Iron Man 3
Year of Release: 2013
Directed By: Shane Black
Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall
Genre: Action, Science-Fiction

Overview:
The studio that brought you Marvel's The Avengers unleashes the best Iron Man adventure yet with this must-own, global phenomenon starring Robert Downey Jr.

When Tony Stark/Iron Man finds his entire world reduced to rubble, he must use all his ingenuity to survive, destory his enemy and somehow protect those he loves. But a soul-searching question haunts him: Does the man make the suit... or does the suit make the man? Featuring spectacular special effects, Marvel's Iron Man 3 explodes with exclusive Blu-ray content, including a Gag Reel, deleted scenes, a never-before-seen Marvel short film and a first-of-its-kind, interactive Second Screen Experience app hosted by JARVIS!

My Thoughts:
First let me say I enjoyed this film. I enjoyed it a lot. Now, I'm not a Marvel reader, except superficially, so the deviations from the comic don't bother me. I thought all of the actors did a great job, most especially Downey Jr, who is the heart and soul of this franchise and whom I am more and more impressed with every time I see him. I still don't like Cheadle's Rhodey as well as Howard's, but he's alright. He just doesn't seem to have the warmth Howard's portrayal did. I liked that Pepper had more to do in this film, and got a chance to be heroic. Overall, it's a good time to be had.

Now, I should probably say that this is the worst Iron Man film. You really don't see a lot of Iron Man, and certain scenes and plot points contradict established facts from the previous films. Other developments, particularly in the ending, are left unexplained.

Yet, conversely, it's the best Tony Stark film. This is Stark's movie, not Iron Man's, and it's about Stark's character growth. If one ignores the issues with his stupidity at the beginning of the film - in giving out his address, calling out the bad guy, and not making optimum use of his tech (for such a smart dude, these are incredibly stupid choices for Stark) - but if one chalks that up to Stark's bravado and lets it slide, then one can appreciate the rest of his growth. How he owns his mistakes, how he comes to realize himself as the hero, he, Tony Stark, not Iron Man. And, really, that is the answer. Iron Man is just gear. Tony is always, has always been, the hero.

Lots of fun, don't over-analyze the continuity problems and you should be fine. Recommended.

Bechdel Test: Fail

Overall: 3.75/5

Critics rave, the latest heart-pounding thriller from the director of THE SIXTH SENSE and SIGNS and the producer of PARANORMAL ACTIVITY and THE PURGE is a "DELICIOUSLY CREEPY TRIUMPH." (Scott Mendelson, Forbes.com)

Extras:
  • Scene Access
  • Bonus Trailers
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Featurettes
  • Gallery
  • Digital Copy

My Thoughts:

This one is a bit different. Kind of a cross between a found footage movie and a regular one as not all the scenes seemed to be like found footage. There is things I liked about this one and things I did not. One thing I liked about it... and the truly scary part about this film is that it could really happen in today's world. While it is worth watching I really don't know how much I would re-watch it.

Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

5. Church of Metropolis (10/23/94)
Let us prey. Entrepreneur Bill Church hires local thugs to terrorize good neighborhoods so he can scoop up bargain-priced real estate as sites for his discount stores.

My Thoughts:
This is the episode that introduces Intergang. I always had mixed feelings on the Intergang storyline since I never cared much for stories involving organized crime. But at the same time the stories have always been pretty good... and I like Peter Boyle as Bill Church.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

6. Operation Blackout (10/30/94)
Where were you when the lights went out? A citywide blackout has Lois and Clark hunting for a culprit(and a motive) while the rest of the Daily Planet staff scrambles to publish sans technology.

My Thoughts:
This one is an entertaining... but somewhat average episode. I will admit it wass fun to watch Lois go through technology withdraws.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

7. That Old Gang of Mine (11/13/94)
Scarface vs. Superman! A misguided scientist manipulates DNA to regenerate 1930s gangsters, including Al Capone - who decides he'd like to run Metropolis the way he did Chicago.

My Thoughts:
I normally do not care for anything with gangsters and such. But this is an exception... as I really enjoyed this episode. I must admit... I got a bit of a chuckle out of Clark falling asleep in the car at the end of the episode while Lois told him how she feels about him.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

8. A Bolt from the Blue (11/20/94)
A lightning strike gives a dumpy sad sack the same abilities Superman possesses. Garbed in a red suit and blue cape, the newly empowered Resplendent Man goes into the superhero biz - for a price.

My Thoughts:
This episode is a lot of fun. I enjoyed every minute of it. Plus it had a few recognizable faces. First there is Denise Crosby playing the doctor once again. This time a much larger part. Then there is Cindy Williams (Laverne and Shirley) As well as I forget his name... but he played the scientist that created the invisibility suit in season 1. This time he plays the guy that get's Superman's abilities.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5
