Look Who's Talking, a review by DJ Doena

Director: Amy Heckerling

John Travolta    ...    James
Kirstie Alley   ...    Mollie
George Segal   ...    Albert
Abe Vigoda   ...    Grandpa
Bruce Willis   ...    Mikey (voice)

Synopsis: Mollie is in love with a married man who promised her to get divorced (which he doesn't of course) and one day she gets pregnant. Nine months later a lunatic cab driver brings her to the hospital where her son Mikey is born. The crazy cab driver becomes her babysitter ... and more. And even though he cannot express himself verbally, Mikey has an opinion about everything in this world and he will "tell" us it.

My Opinion: It's a very funny movie, mainly of course due to Bruce Willis's voice-over of Mikey but John Travolta and Kirstey Alley are a lot fun, too.
I bet the shootings were very exhausting (working with a number of small children and all) but the end product doesn't show it - if you exclude Mollie's birth-giving scenes. ;)

The Jungle Book (2016), a review by GSyren

The Jungle Book (8-717418-484675)
United States 2016 | Released 2016-08-22 on Bluray from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment
106 minutes | Aspect ratio 1.85:1 | Audio: English DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1, French DTS-HD High Resolution 5.1, Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1, Portuguese Dolby Digital 5.1
Directed by Jon Favreau and starring Neel Sethi, Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba, Lupita Nyong'o

The man-cub Mowgli flees the jungle after a threat from the tiger Shere Khan. Guided by Bagheera the panther and the bear Baloo, Mowgli embarks on a journey of self-discovery, though he also meets creatures who don't have his best interests at heart.

My thoughts about The Jungle Book:
I had very low expectations for this version of The Jungle Book. I loved the old Disney version, and I thought that the whole liven action / CGI combination was just an awful idea. I very often hate movies that depend heavily on CGI, so I expected to hate this one as well. I was wrong. I really liked it. Especially at first. But then there were two things that just didn't work for me. First of all, the songs. They just felt so wrong. They just didn't fit the mood of the film at all. Secondly, I disliked the whole King Louie sequence (not just the song). I don't have a problem with celebrity voices per se, but somehow King Louie became just too Christopher Walken. It felt like a big monkey doing a bad impression of Walken.

On the other hand, I had no problem with the kid. I know many people didn't think he could act. I thought he did an amazing job for a ten year old kid acting in a blue screen environment. And the CGI worked surprisingly well for the most part. For the first half of the movie this was easily a 4 1/2 start movie for me. But then it took a dip. Still, I'm glad I finally overcame my suspicions and sat down to watch it.
I rate this title

Laurie Metcalf as Donna Allman (voice)
Kath Soucie as Andy Allman (voice)

Plot:
GOD IS IN ONE OF THOSE MOODS AGAIN...

...one of those "I think I'll cause another Great Flood to wipe mankind from the face of the Earth" kind of moods. He's always expected more from humanity and he's getting a little annoyed. Luckily God isn't quite ready to start all over again, so he decides that if one individual can prove the world is worth saving, he will spare it. And being a sporting kind of diety, God lets the Devil pick the man upon whose shoulders the fate of the world will rest.

Unfortunately, the Devil picks Bob Alman, a beer-drinking, porn-watching, "what's-in-it-for-me?" kind of guy who really doesn't want to be responsible for anyone or anything. Start praying...and start laughing.

Featuring the voices of Alan Cumming, French Stewart, Laurie Metcalf and James Garner.

God, the Devil and Bob
1.01 In the Beginning

A nice little comedy. This series was cancelled after four episodes, mainly because of pressure from religious groups.
