Finders Keepers, a review by GSyren

Finders Keepers (5-060057-210994)
United Kingdom 1966 | Released 2015-03-09 on DVD from Hollywood Classics, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, Media Sales
86 minutes | Aspect ratio Non-anamorphic 1.53:1 | Audio: English Dolby Digital Mono
Directed by Sidney Hayers and starring Cliff Richard, Bruce Welch, Hank B. Marvin, Brian Bennett, John Rostill

When a mini bomb is dropped by accident from an American plane over Spain, the "spies" from various foreign countries converge in an attempt to find it. Leading the pack is a young Englishman named Cliff, who arrives with his singing group, called the Shadows. Cliff and the Shadows hitchhike to a hotel which, they find deserted. With the help of a local girl named Emelia (Ventura), they decide that it is in their interest to locate the bomb and hand it over to the American troops, who have moved in on a similar mission. But Mr X (Le Mesurier), the sinister representative of a foreign power, has the same idea and blackmails Colonel Roberts (Morley), the English manager of the hotel to do the job for him. Burke (Stark), the hotel clerk, is also in on the scheme.

Before all the confusion and skulduggery ends, Cliff and the Shadows have uncovered the bomb for the Americans, and Cliff has enjoyed a romantic liaison with Emelia

My thoughts about Finders Keepers:
I was a teenager in the sixties, so I grew up with sixties music, which included Cliff Richard and the Shadows. And I guess that's why I found this film quite entertaining. It's a very sixties musical comedy, with a bit of spy stuff thrown in for good measure. One reviewer on IMDb wrote "The plot is so thin you could floss your teeth with it". Well, that gave me a laugh, but it's true. It's a fun bit of nonsense. It may not be to everyone's liking, but if you're into the sixties you'll probably like it. I did.
I rate this title

Dr. Francis Clay (Klaus Kinski, Herzog's Nosferatu) is the head doctor at an upstate asylum that house suicidal and mentally disturbed women. However, the asylum turns into a house of horror when a cloaked killer begins brutally murdering the patients using medieval weapons and torture devices, and Dr. Clay find himself among the suspect.

Who is the killer ? When will he strike again ? Will the nightmare ever end ? Find out in this horrific tale of terror that will keep you at the edge of your seat untill the climstic conclusion !

Extras:
None, not even a menu

My Thoughts:
There one fact that I've learned from horror movie watching : dreaming can kill you... Wait this have nothing to do with this movie. The more relative fact is that an asylum is not a good place to stay and who you are is not important. You are at risk if you are a patient, a nurse or a doctor. Now if the asylum is an old castle with a collection of medieval weapon and an iron maiden (not the metal band, but the torture instrument who are less fun), the idea of be there doesn't seems really interesting. But if you want a positive point for the asylum, the patients and some nurse loose their clothes easilly and Rosalba Neri is treated because she's a nymphomaniac.

So does this sound interesting? Sure, but... Sadly the version of the movie that I own is incomplete (11 minutes are cut) and that make the movie quite bad. Everytime that something interesting happen (violence or sex) the movie cut and it's evident since the editing job is not very professional. All the cast look bad, but that's the fault of the dubbing job (I've seen Klaus Kinski, Margaret Lee, Rosalba Neri and  John Karlsen in other movies and I know that they are talented). The end make no sense, it looks like the director had forgot that he need a killer and he had decided to choose the guy who was in the movie for 3 minutes in the beginning. Just to give a concrete exemple it's like if in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre the killer would have been the drunk man in the cemetary (hopes that I don't spoil it for you )

But the movie looks certainly interesting and I will try to find a complete version. I'm sure that a version was release somewhere in Europe. So keep in mind that my rating is for the edit version that I own and not for the complete original Italian movie.

Rating : 2,0/5

Movie trailer
Not the one for the movie cut here, but the original Italian one.

The One Where It All Began: The Pilot Marathon, a review by DJ Doena

Due South

What's the show about?
Constable Benton Fraser from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) works as liaison officer in the Canadian consulate in Chicago. He also helps Chicago PD Detective Ray Veccio to solve crimes where he either was made aware of or where his unique skills are essential.

"Pilot"
"If you kill a Mountie, they'll hunt you to the end of the world." After his father was killed, Constable Fraser investigates this "hunting accident" and tracks down a group of hunters who wore new boots, drove a Jeep Wrangler and had big calibre rifles: Americans. He follows their trail down to Chicago and requests to be transferred there. The local police isn't really interested in the case but Detective Veccio helps to uncover that it was a hired hit and the trail leads back to the RCMP.

My Opinion
A cool buddy cop show from the mid-90s which was defined by the different lifestyles and ways of crime-solving of Fraser and Veccio. They were a great team and it was real fun to watch them, especially when Fraser put things in his mouth and Ray was disgusted every time. ;D And I loved the deaf wolf Diefenbaker who could read lips. :)
I can't remember though if I ever saw an episode with Veccio's successor, the new "Ray". But I definitively will do that in the foreseeable future.
