This film is pure filth! And absolutely brilliant for it. Why does Kevin Smith always seem to be on the sidelines while Apatow has the Midas touch? Smith has been doing it longer and better. The only thing I can think of is that films like Knocked Up play it relatively safe. Much as I enjoy them (although Superbad was a misfire for me) they always feel quite generic by the end. While this also is also predictable (unavoidable in this genre, though Smith did well with Chasing Amy), but it maintains a high standard throughout.

Critics of Kevin Smith films often accuse him of naivety. While I can sometimes see their point, I just think he's a very honest writer. He goes as dirty as he possibly can and matches it at the other end in sentimentality. It's no more sentimental than identikit crap like Sandra Bullock phones in every couple of years and at least this has some bite.

The adorable Elizabeth Banks rounds out a typical View Askew potty-mouthed cast. Her relationship with Seth Rogen feels genuine and while he's playing a similar part to Knocked Up, this feels more natural.

Overall it's a similar format to Clerks, in fact it borders on autobiographical for Kevin Smith who made his first film in the shop where he worked, blanking out the windows, foregoing sleep and getting his mates to help. I bet when he had the idea for Clerks, he considered a porno!

Suddenly
The tranquility of a small town is marred only by sheriff Tod Shaw's unsuccessful courtship of widow Ellen Benson, a pacifist who can't abide guns and those who use them. But violence descends on Ellen's household willy-nilly when the U.S. President passes through town... and slightly psycho hired assassin John Baron finds the Benson home ideal for an ambush.

My Thoughts:
Next up I decided to go with a classic movie starring Frank Sinatra This is just a cheap public domain movie that I got free in the Classic Movie Boxset I got for subscribing to Total Movie Magazine several years ago. So I obviously wasn't expecting much of anything quality wise... and it is a good thing I didn't because the quality of the video definitely left some to be desired. As for the movie itself... I really enjoyed this movie. It was filled with suspense... and had a nice amount of action to go with it. All the characters was likable and I was completely hooked on this story... so much so that the time flew by in what felt like only a few minutes.

The One Where It All Began: The Pilot Marathon, a review by DJ Doena

What's the show about?
The sitcom revolves around the lives of three physicists, one engineer and one waitress. The two physicists Sheldon and Leonard live across the hall from Penny the waitress. Leonard is in love with Penny but she hasn't responded yet. Sheldon and Leonard are often visited by their friends Rajesh and Howard (the latter one being the engineer) and when their world clashes with Penny's hilarity ensues.

"Pilot"
Leonard and Sheldon have just aborted a high IQ sperm donation when they discover that they have a new neighbour: Penny, a waitress at "The Cheesecake Factory". When Penny takes a shower in their apartment (and hopefully doesn't discover the Darth Vader shampoo or the Luke Skywalker conditioner) she asks Leonard for a favour...

My Opinion
One of my favourite sitcoms of all time. The five are so hilarious together with Sheldon being the heyday of most episodes. Sheldon is totally unaware of his rudeness and his arrogance and it's great fun to watch him and the others. I can't wait for the third season to begin next week and I am glad that the network has already ordered a fourth season.
