The Good Witch's Destiny, a review by addicted2dvd
Stars: Catherine Bell as Cassie Nightingale Chris Potter as Jake Hannah Endicott-Douglas as Lori Matthew Knight as Brandon Peter MacNeill as George Catherine Disher as Martha Plot: All Cassie Nightingale (Catherine Bell) wants for her birthday is for her family and friends to be together. While her husband Jake (Chris Potter) suggests an intimate dinner at a fancy restaurant in their hometown of Middleton, Cassie would rather have a party at The Grey House, with all her loved ones in attendance. And since Jake's kids, Brandon (Matthew Knight) and Lori (Hannah Endicott-Douglas), are growing up with lives of their own, it might be their last chance to unite as a family for a long time. My Thoughts: This morning I watched this year's news addition to the Good Witch franchise. This is film number 6 and I am enjoying them just as much now as I did when I originally saw the first one. This series of films has become one of my favorite things about the Halloween season. One I hope to continue for years to come... though with the way this one played out I wouldn't be surprised if this is the last in the franchise. If you like family films with a touch of fantasy... I recommend checking out the entire Good Witch franchise. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Addicted2DVD's Month Long Horror/Halloween Marathon on October 30th, 2013) Slither, a review by RichTitle: Slither Movie Count:35 TV Ep. Count:18 Runtime:92 Certificate:15 Year:2006 Genres:Horror, Comedy Plot:One humdrum evening, Grant hits the local bar where he bumps into an old friend, Brenda. Abandoning their drinks for a moonlit stroll, the pair discovers the remains of what appears to be a meteor and a trail of glistening, noxious ooze leading to a pulsating, unidentifiable mass. Suddenly, the glob comes to life and overtakes Grant, penetrating his body with a pustule-covered tentacle. As alien parasite has found and infected its unlucky human host and unwilling transporter who now must continue to infect others in order to survive. My Review: Despite some pretty impressive special effects, this B movie could best be described as a blob with brains. Little in the way of storyline, the characters are faceless and the lack of tension, humour or horror make this a nondescript movie. The only thing hardcore in this movie is the pointless excess of swearing - there is no significant gore, no major slashing, in fact nothing at all except dumbing down in a poor attempt to rip-off films like The Thing. Why did the worms make people walk bow-legged? Was the make-up artist drunk? One to miss. My Rating Out of a Possible 5 (From Rich's October Horror Fest on October 27th, 2009) Tom's Random Reviews, a review by TomTitle: Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl Year: 2006 Director: Rating: PG-13 Length: 325 Min. Video: Full Frame 1.33:1 Audio: Japanese: Dolby Digital Stereo Subtitles: English Stars: Plot: On a warm, cloudy afternoon, Tomari bursts in on two girls from her class, Hazumu and Yasuna, sharing a tender first kiss. Her heart breaks ... from jealousy. Hazumu was born a boy, but he certainly doesn't act it. He's sensitive, delicate, and loves gardening. Lucky for him, he grew up with the tomboy Tomari, who is always there to protect him. Despite her own feelings, she pushes Hazumu to confess his love to the elegant Yasuna. After Yasuna rejects him, he retreats into the mountains in despair. So begins the strange series of events that changes him into a her, and earns her the love of both Yasuna and Tomari. Extras: Interviews Textless opening and closing Trailers My Thoughts: Surprisingly couragous for the conservative Japan.A boy, which through an accident with an alien ship gets tranformed into a girl is caught in a love triangle with two other girls. Both of which were already interested in him while he was a boy. One is a girl also he was interested in, the other is his long-time childhood friend. What I found refreshing is, that the makers made it clear from the beginning, that this change is not reversable. So there is no easy way out by simply turning him back into a boy. Also he is not trying to be more boyish after turning into a girl. As a matter of fact he was rather girly to begin with. I don't know if it was intentional, but I see it as a metaphor for a girl caught in a boy's body who is now being turned into his/hers true self (sex-change operation). This series touches a little on the topic of how friends and family will react on such a change. Partly in a comedic way, but also in a serious way (especially the girls caught in the love triangle). Another interesting aspect brought into the series is a strange illness one of the girls has, where she cannot can see the boys only some vage figure. Overall a fun romantic comedy, where the main protagonist happens to be a girl instead of a boy. Rating: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSvaVl0y-Xs (From Tom's Random Reviews on November 9th, 2008) |
