Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, a review by Rich

Title: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Runtime:147
Certificate:12
Year:2009
Genres:Fantasy, Adventure

Plot:
As Harry Potter begins his 6th year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he discovers an old book marked mysteriously "This book is the property of the Half-Blood Prince" and begins to learn more about Lord Voldemort's dark past

My Review:
I am not a Harry Potter fan - an admission that can nearly get you publicly flogged  :surrender: Having not read the books most of the films I have found boring and wanting up to this point, the characters dull and the whole saga artificially extended solely for commercial purposes.
This film does not change my mind, I rate it as a childrens film with large budget. The only high point was the introduction of the quality acting from Jim Broadbent. This movie seemed to have a lot less action than predeccesors, and an amazing amount of CGI is involved to create the most stunning cave scene.
I found it boring, my fellow viewers were blindly loving it although they commented it does stray from the book somewhat.
My Rating
 :-\

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, a review by dfmorgan

Entertainment One (United Kingdom)
Director:Mark Neveldine [Neveldine/Taylor], Brian Taylor [Neveldine/Taylor]
Writing:Scott M. Gimple (Screenwriter), Seth Hoffman (Screenwriter), David S. Goyer (Screenwriter), David S. Goyer (Story By)
Length:96 min.
Video:Widescreen 2.40:1
Audio:English: DTS-HD Master Audio: 5.1
Subtitles:English

Stars:Plot:
NICOLAS CAGE (Drive Angry, Season Of The Witch) stars as legendary action hero Johnny Blaze in one of the year's most thrilling, adrenaline-pumped films.

Struggling to live with his flame-headed alter ego The Ghost Rider, Blaze is offered the chance to rid himself of his curse forever - but to do so he must defeat The Devil in a terrifying battle for survival. Co-starring Idris Elba (Thor) and Ciaran Hinds (The Woman In Black) and featuring ground-breaking special effects, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is one hell of a ride.

Extras:
  • Scene Access
  • Audio Commentary
  • Bonus Trailers
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Featurettes

My Thoughts:

A fairly entertaining film. I watched this in 2D as I don't have a 3D TV. Nicolas Cage reprises his dual role of Johnny Blaze / The Ghost Rider and for the most his anguished tortured faces and groans work. A bit more background is given to The Ghost Rider itself
(click to show/hide)
however I don't know if that is canon for the comic stories or whether it was just for this film. One biggish change between this film and the first is that the bike is no longer a chopper, although still special in The Ghost Rider's hands it is now a super-duper motorbike.

Rating: I quite enjoyed this for a 3

Tom's TV Pilots marathon, a review by Tom

The Thin Blue Line (1995/United Kingdom)

Universal Pictures (United Kingdom)
Length:438 min.
Video:Full Frame 1.33:1
Audio:English: Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo
Subtitles:

Plot:
Written by Ben Elton and starring Rowan Atkinson, The Thin Blue Line is one of the BBC's classic comedy shows. For the first time on DVD all 14 episodes from Series 1 & 2 are available here on one disc.

The Thin Blue Line
Series 1.01 Rag Week
Writer: Ben Elton (Writer)
Director: John Birkin
Cast: Rowan Atkinson (Inspector Fowler), Kevin Allen (D.C. Kray), Mina Anwar (P.C. Habib), James Dreyfus (P.C. Goody), Serena Evans (Sergeant Dawkins), David Haig (D.I. Grim), Rudolph Walker (P.C. Gladstone), Jean Ainslie, Ruth Arnold, Dicken Ashworth (Bank Manager), Gabrielle Blunt (Prosecuting Counsel), Joy Brook (D.C. Crockett), Lloyd McGuire, Bill Moody, Julian Rivett, Walter Sparrow, Paul Williams

This series is one of Rowan Atkinson's less popular ones. It doesn't come close to Blackadder and Mr. Bean. But I still enjoyed it.
