From Beyond, a review by addicted2dvdTitle: From Beyond Year: 1986 Director: Stuart Gordon Rating: Category IIB (US Rating: R) Length: 85 Min. Video: Widescreen 1.50:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital Stereo Subtitles: Chinese Stars: Jeffrey Combs Barbara Crampton Ted Sorel Ken Foree Carolyn Purdy-Gordon Plot: "A hilariously grisly amalgam of sex, shock and satire. Do I laugh or do I scream? Both." - Newsweek If you loved RE-ANIMATOR, wait until you visit FROM BEYOND! It's a critically-acclaimed shocker based on H.P. Lovecraft's classic tale of suspense that takes you where no horror film has! The Resonator is a gruesome machine that activates a special sixth sense - one that makes its victims crave human brains. You're in for a wonderfully slimy time when you go FROM BEYOND! Extras: N/A My Thoughts: This is one of the movies that our good friend Achim sent to me. So it is a Hong Kong release (no region coding). I thought I never seen this movie before. But I now believe I had as some of the scenes in it looked familiar. It is not a great movie... but it was worth watching. I did enjoy it. One thing that kinda bothered me off and on through-out the movie is the forced Chinese subtitles. They distracted me from the movie a few times. As I said... the movie is pretty good., had some disgusting scenes in it. I don't think I would really classify it as gory... because when I think gory I think blood and guts... humans being torn apart. While there is a bit of blood. This seems different to me. It is more on the line of things you never seen before that look pretty gross. And those things coming apart and such. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Weekend Movie Marathon: Unwatched DVDs on January 7th, 2010) Blade: Trinity, a review by HalTitle: Blade: Trinity: New Line Platinum Series Year: 2004 Director: David S. Goyer Rating: Unrated Length: 122 Min. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 2.35:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital EX: 5.1 (Matrixed 6.1), English: DTS ES: 5.1 (Matrixed 6.1), English: Dolby Digital: Dolby Surround, Commentary: Dolby Digital: 2-Channel Stereo, Commentary: Dolby Digital: 2-Channel Stereo Subtitles: English, Spanish Stars: Wesley Snipes Kris Kristofferson Dominic Purcell Jessica Biel Ryan Reynolds Plot:Extras: Scene Access Audio Commentary Feature Trailers Deleted Scenes Featurettes Gallery DVD-ROM Content Closed Captioned Both Theatrical (rated R) and Extended Versions (not rated) My Thoughts: This film was the weakest of the trilogy for me. The movie dragged at several points and I did not care for the Hannibal King character..I just don't like wise asses, not to mention that while Blade and Abigail are killing off vampires left and right during the big, climactic fight scene, Hannibal has fights with just two and almost loses both. Purcell does a good job with Drake, and I really liked his "primal form". The whole lock up sequence at the police station and the escape were just a waste of valuable film time.Fortunately, this seems to be the end of the story...hopefully! Though I prefer the live-action series. The anime follows the manga more closely though. Funnily it incoporates a few ideas the live-action series came up with. The pilot episode is a double-length episode. It covers about the same story as the first live-action episode. Only here Onizuka starts out as a student teacher at another school which he finishes successfully in this episode. This means that the student that he helps here will not be part of the series after this episode. In the live-action version she was. She was his biggest supporter there.
