Moneyball, a review by AntaresMoneyball (2011) 2.5/5 - I'm usually pretty forgiving when it comes to films about my all time favorite sport, baseball. Hell, I even have a soft spot for such tremendously bad baseball films such as The Babe Ruth Story, because I'm a sucker for the romanticism of the game itself. But when it comes to Moneyball, I have to draw the line. Now most could say that a baseball film which deals with the statistical aspect of the game, shouldn't warrant a big screen endeavor. But due to the enormous impact on the game caused by Billy Beane's use of Sabrmatics, I found it a plausible idea for a screenplay, but only for a 30 for 30 episode on ESPN. Others could also say that the thought of such a film would be boring as hell, but when the story is dealing with Beane's attempt at using the 'science' of statistics, the film fires on all cylinders. So what is the explanation for throwing in snippets of Beane's family life? It completely altered the mood and pacing of the film, and made for a very uneven viewing experience. And on top of this, you have one of the most anti-climactic endings in a sports film ever. I can't understand how this banal film could have been nominated as Best Picture. (From Antares' Short Summations on March 22nd, 2012) Superman 2, a review by addicted2dvdTitle: Superman II Year: 1980 Director: Richard Lester Rating: PG Length: 127 Min. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 2.35:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital: Dolby Surround, French: Dolby Digital: Mono Subtitles: English, French, Portuguese, Spanish Stars: Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor Christopher Reeve as Superman Clark Kent Ned Beatty as Otis Jackie Cooper as Perry White Sarah Douglas as Ursa Margot Kidder as Lois Lane Plot:Extras: Scene Access Feature Trailers Production Notes Closed Captioned My Thoughts: I woke first this this morning wanting to watch this movie again. Another one I really enjoyed. Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder do a good job reprising their roles. I also liked the 3 Kryptonian criminals. I thought it was a great idea to make Superman face someone (or a small group as it is) as strong as he is. Even though I understand why they had to do it for the storyline... I never cared much for when Superman gave up his powers to be with Lois. The movie was almost boring in those scenes. But of course it really picked up afterward... and I really enjoyed the fight between Superman and the Kryptonian criminals. Over-all it is a great movie. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From What Movies I Been Watching on April 16th, 2010) Angel Marathon, a review by addicted2dvdAngel: Season 2 17. Disharmony Original Air Date: 4/17/2001 While the crew tracks down a cult of vampires led by a former motivational speaker with a wicked pyramid scheme, Cordelia gets a surprise visit from her old high-school buddy Harmony. Unaware her flaky pal's a bloodsucker, Cordy mistakes Harm's strange behavior for lesbianism---until the truth comes out, so to speak, in a call to Willow. Much to the dismay of her co-workers, the ever loyal Cordelia resolves to give her undead friend a chance at fighting for the good guys. Guest Stars: Mercedes McNab Pat Healy Alyson Hannigan My Thoughts: This one is more a fun, comedic episode. And it definitely is funny. Brittany joined me watching this one... and she was laughing so hard she couldn't even breath. It was definitely hilarious seeing Cordelia confusing Harmony being a vampire with being a lesbian. And even more so when she goes on about it to Willow over the phone. My Rating: (From Angel Marathon on March 9th, 2010) |
