The Secret of Kells, a review by dfmorgan
Year: 2009 Director: Tomm Moore, Nora Twomey Cast: Evan Mc Guire, Christen Mooney, Brendan Gleeson OverviewWatched: 20th. Nov 2010 My Thoughts: A very enjoyable film. Different in style to many of the bigger animation studios offerings but still very good. Much of the work is based around the Illumination style of drawing used in manuscripts and as such there were many instances of shapes etc. surrounding the on-screen action. My Rating: A very enjoyable 4 Dave (From Dave's DVD/Blu-ray Reviews on November 21st, 2010) 1408, a review by addicted2dvd1408 Based on a story by suspence master Stephen King, '1408' is a gripping "roller-coaster of a head trip" (Owen Gleiberman, 'Entertainment Weekly') that will have you on the edge of your seat. John Cusack delivers "a tour de force performance" (Stephen Faber, 'Hollywood Reporter') as a skeptical writer investigating paranormal events. When he insists on staying in the reportedly haunted room 1408 at the Dolphin Hotel against the grave warnings of the hotel manager (Samuel L. Jackson), he discovers the room's deadly secret an evil so powerful, no one has ever survived an hour within its walls. In the tradition of King's 'The Shining' and 'Misery', '1408' is "a psychologically thrilling movie that leaves you gasping in the end" (Desiree Belmarez, 'Denver Post'). My Thoughts: Wow... I don't know what else to say other then I loved every minute of it. Sure there was some parts that was a little weirder then I would have liked... and some of it was a bit predictable. Especially for someone that watches a load of horror/Haunted house movies as I do. But over all... I enjoyed every second of it. The cast was really good. Johyn Cusack did a great job... but I though Samuel L. Jackson was outstanding. This is one I will definitely be watching again. (From Weekend Movie Marathon: 2/8-2/10 on February 9th, 2008) Pete's Pilots, a review by addicted2dvdFirefly Five hundred years in the future there's a whole new frontier, and the crew of the Firefly-class spaceship Serenity is eager to stake a claim on the action. They'll take any job, legal or illegal, to keep fuel in the tanks and food on the table. But things get a bit more complicated after they take on a passenger wanted by the new totalitarian Alliance regime. Now they find themselves on the run, desperate to steer clear of Alliance ships and the flesh-eating Reavers who live on the fringes of space. SERENITY - PART 1 & 2 The crew of Serenity is eager to rid themselves of an easily traceable cargo they salvaged from a vessel adrift in space, totally unaware that a passenger has brought an even more dangerous cargo aboard. My Thoughts: This is the first time I watched an episode of this show in a long time. I must say... I forgot just how good it was. It is a shame that FOX didn't give this series more of a chance. The story is good and the characters are likable. This is a show that I blind bought on DVD after a friend recommended it to me. I so easily could continue watching this show... but I want to get further on this marathon right now. My Rating: (From Pete's Pilots on January 25th, 2010) |
