The Lincoln Lawyer, a review by DragonfireI went to see The Lincoln Lawyer soon after it came out. The movie is based on the book by Michael Connelly. I haven't read the book - though I am interested in reading it - so I don't know what has been changed for the movie. It does well as an entertaining legal thriller overall. The plot is interesting even though it isn't that complex. There are a few surprises that turn up, though other things that happen are more predictable. Some of what happens in the movie is a bit disturbing, like the attack that Louis is accused of. That part isn't really shown, though there are a few flashback scenes that sort of show what happened...or what might have happened. There is some mystery connected to what happened. A few subplots are added in without making things too complicated. Some things that happen seem a bit random at first, but by the end, they are connected in some way. A few scenes do include a bit of suspense. The movie works well as a thriller. Some of the characters don't receive that much attention, though I expected that since they weren't in as much of the movie. A few of the characters end up being a bit more complex than they seem at first, which helps to make things more interesting. The cast all do well with their parts. I do think this is one of Matthew McConaughey's better performances. Overall I really enjoyed this movie and think it is worth seeing. I did get a review posted on Epinions. The Lincoln Lawyer (From The Lincoln Lawyer on May 8th, 2011) Moneyball, a review by DragonfireMoneyball I was interested in seeing Moneyball, a movie about baseball, after seeing the trailer. I don't like baseball, but I was still interested in the movie. For some reason, I tend to like sports movies even though I don't like sports. Moneyball is based on a true story of how the general manager of the Oakland A's, Billy Beane, used statistics to try to predict how well players would do to put together a team with a limited budget that could still compete against the teams with huge payroll budgets..the teams that pay several players millions of dollars a year. When Billy started using the different way of finding new players, a lot of people in the organization though he was nuts, and he ticked off some of the scouts. The movie follows how he put together a team, with the help of Peter and then how the team did in the next season. Overall, the movie is very entertaining. I don't know how accurate everything is. From some things I've read, it sounds like a few things may have been condensed..something that is normal in these types of movies. Peter is a fictional character based on a few real people. I did look up a few things and main things mentioned in the movie did really happen. Some of the games are shown, though usually it is just a few bits here and there. Most of the movie deals with baseball in some way. Some time is taken to show Billy with his daughter..and ex-wife. Some of the scenes with his daughter do drag the pace down a bit and seem to go on a bit too long. The characters are interesting and the cast does a good job. The movie is worth seeing, though it isn't going to appeal to everyone. I did get a review posted on Epinions if anyone would like to take a look. Moneyball (From Moneyball on October 6th, 2011) "Due South" marathon, a review by RickVictoria's Secret - Part 1 From the very beginning you can tell this episode is going to be different. There was some comedy in it, the hat as Tom pointed out I also got a chuckle at the vacuum and the TV Fraser borrowed, both were broken and HE had to fix them before he returned them But it is for the most part all Drama. I thought Ray acted kinda crappy when he came to Fraser's house to get the money, it did give them a chance for Fraser to leave the appartment (click to show/hide) The story is pretty predictible but still enjoyable. Great ending. The next episode is beginning right now Rating: (From "Due South" marathon on July 28th, 2009) |
