The Beast & the Beauty, a review by Tom
Stars: SeungBum Ryoo as DongGun Goo MinA Shin as Hae-Ju Jang KangWoo Kim as JuneHa Tak KilKang An as DoSik Choi YoungSook Lee as JaeJu's Mother Extras:
My Thoughts: A nice romantic comedy. A guy who isn't the best looking guy learns, that his blind girlfriend will get her eyesight back. Ashamed by his appearance, and because he described himself as handsome to her, he is hiding from her now. Added to that an old handsome school friend of his has entered the girlfriends life. South Korea seems to be a nice source to get some charming romantic comedies. I have watched and enjoyed a few so far. I even ordered a few more recently. Rating: (From Tom's Random Reviews on October 9th, 2010) The Duel at Silver Creek, a review by RogmeisterThe Duel at Silver Creek (1952) 77m Director: Don Siegel Cast: Audie Murphy, Faith Domergue, Stephen McNally, Gerald Mohr, Susan Cabot, Lee Marvin Hey, this movie came out the year I was born...this DVD has a terrific-looking print of this 58-year old movie, though it has no extras apart from the theatrical trailer. The movie deals with a large group of claim jumpers who force miners to give up deeds to their claims...and often repay them by killing them. Audie Murphy plays a young man whose father is killed...he winds up the deputy of the fast-drawing sheriff. The action is fast and furious in this oater filled with gunplay and horse chases. For some reason, most of the main cast members have nickhames...Audie is The Silver Kid, the sheriff is known as Lightning, a couple of the bad guys are Rat Face and Johnny Sombrero and the girls are referred to as Dusty and Brown Eyes. One fly in the ointment for the good guys is the marshal has suffered a wound and can no longer pull the trigger on his six-gun with his good hand. Of course, you know the good guys are going to prevail...right? And one day he simply walks into the headquarters and gets himself "caught". He presents a proposal: He helps the FBI to catch some of the most dangerous people in the world - people the FBI sometimes doesn't even know about - and in exchange he gets to work with a young female FBI profiler of his choosing. My Opinion: This is the first real hit for me. I only caught wind of the show shortly before the season began. I watched the trailer (see below) and was immediately sold. So far I watched the first three episodes and come to really like the show and its characters. I used to love puzzles but since TV writers don't really share my passion in the sense of that the final picture must be clear before you start I have given up trying to figure out any long-term mysteries on TV shows, for example what's really going on with Lizzy's husband. If the writers decide to, they will change his background halfway through the season anyway. * So I limit myself to watching and enjoying one episode at a time and see how the story unfolds. But there's one puzzle that's caught my attention: The true relationship between Red and Lizzy. It's is so blatantly obvious to any watcher that she is his daughter (whatever her official history says) that I can't help but wonder if it is in fact a red herring. * Guess which show made me dislike such puzzles: LOST (From The 2013 Pilot Review on October 9th, 2013) |
