The Big Lebowski, a review by Dragonfire

The Big Lebowski

The Dude. One cool guy. Who one day comes home to find two thugs have broken in and ruined his favorite carpet - the one that made the room "hang together". Thing is, they did it because he's got the same name as one of the richest men in town. Lebowski. But, hey, no problem. He'll get even. At least he'll get someone to pay for the carpet.

My Thoughts

I kept hearing stuff about this one, but I hadn't seen it.  When I spotted it in Walmart last month for $7.50, I decided I would go ahead and get it.

The movie is somewhat bizarre and odd, but that works for it and helps to make it more entertaining in my opinion.  Things start off rather straight forward.  The Dude is mistaken for someone else and his rug is used as a toilet, so it makes sense that he's ticked.  His friend Walter, who has anger issues, gets him more rilled up over the situation.  After that, more and more starts going on and things do get a bit more complicated.  I think the movie is more about following The Dude through all the ...weirdness than in finding resolutions for everything.  Though there are some resolutions.

A lot of what happens is funny in a twisted way.  The humor won't appeal to everyone, but I think it works perfectly for the movie.  The language is extreme at times, so that will probably offend some people.  There is a little bit of violence in the movie, but I don't think of it as being violent overall.

All the characters are different in some way in this movie.  The Dude is very laid back and tries to avoid anything that is stressful of requires him to do much of anything.  It isn't that he isn't capable of doing more.  He just choses not to.  He is far from stupid and he actually figures several things out.  Jeff Bridges is absolutely amazing in the part.  Walter keeps pushing The Dude to do things, and it rarely turns out well.  Walter definitely has anger issues.  Donnie is just sort of around, joining a conversation in the middle and asking questions that really tick off Walter.

Overall, I ended up really enjoying this movie and I'm glad I decided to pick it up.  It is kind of bizarre, but it is extremely entertaining.  The movie isn't going to appeal to everyone though.

I did get a review posted on Epinions recently.

Predestination, a review by GSyren

Predestination (5-051162-332978)
Australia 2014 | Released 2014-12-10 on Bluray from Sony Picture Home Entertainment
98 minutes | Aspect ratio 2.40:1 | Audio: English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, Portuguese DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, Czech Dolby Digital 5.1, Hungarian Dolby Digital 5.1, Polish Dolby Digital 5.1
Directed by Michael Spierig, Peter Spierig and starring Ethan Hawke, Sarah Snook, Christopher Kirby, Christopher Sommers, Kuni Hashimoto

Critics are hailing Predestination as 'the best film of the year' and 'enthralling from start to finish'. From the directors of Daybreakers, PREDESTINATION chronicles the life of a Temporal Agent (Ethan Hawke, Boyhood, Training Day) sent on an intricate series of time-travel journeys designed to stop crimes before they are committed. Now, on his final assignment, he must pursue the one criminal that has eluded him throughout time.

My thoughts about Predestination:
Predestination isn't an easy film to write about. First of all, you don't want to give away any plot points. Secondly, it's really hard to describe the film, plot points or no plot points.

It's not your ordinary time travel movie. It's kind of science fiction noir. It starts out with an action scene, but then it turns into two guys talking in a bar for quite a while, and you're left wandering what they have to do with the opening scene. But after a while that falls into place. And then as the film goes on you start understanding other things bit by bit. Some of it may be rather easy to spot, some takes a little longer, but it's not like there is a big all encompassing reveal at the end.

Let's just say that it takes the time travel paradox to a new level. Some call it a "mind fuck". Others call it crap. I really liked it, but your mileage may vary.
I rate this title

Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

5. JUST SAY NOAH
THE DAILY PLANET's top reporters go undercover as Mr. and Mrs. to investigate a mysterious institute of love.

My Thoughts:
OK... this is more like it. Sure this is a silly episode... but it is also a lot of fun. While watching this I was wondering why the guy that played Smiley looked so familiar to me. And when I looked him up I found out why. I just recently watched him in one of the Dukes of Hazzard reunion movies.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

6. DON'T TUG ON SUPERMAN'S CAPE
Superman, objet d'art. A wealthy Metropolis couple wants to add Superman to their collection of rarities.

My Thoughts:
This is a fun episode... if not silly at times. Some of the dream and fantasy scenes were a little silly at times. But I still enjoyed them. It started with Clark dream he and Lois was Lucy and Ricky from I Love Lucy (best clip of them all!) then there was fantasies of both James Bond and Dragnet. This episode also has a guest star of Jonathan Frakes (Star Trek: TNG).

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

7. ULTRA WOMAN
Scheming sisters zap Superman with red kryptonite, but the plot goes haywire when his powers transfer to Lois.

My Thoughts:
This episode I always liked a lot. And no not ONLY because of Lois in a Superhero costume. I also thought this was a fun storyline. This episode also had a couple of familiar guest stars. Of course there is Shelley Long. But there was also Mary Gross (Mrs. Quick on Sabrina, The Teenage Witch).

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

8. CHIP OFF THE OLD CLARK
Superdad? Clark denies that a little boy is his lovechild. Then why can the tot pick up a sofa?

My Thoughts:
This one is alright... but not one I would call a favorite. just a standard filler episode really.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

9. SUPER MANN
A race against the Master Race. Superman battles revived World War II Nazis who seek world domination.

My Thoughts:
A good... but not great episode. But then I was never much for anything that deals with Nazi's.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

10. VIRTUALLY DESTROYED
Strength doesn't cut it when you need I.T. skills. Superman requires Jimmy's help to foil a computer genius.

My Thoughts:
A pretty good episode. I liked that they gave Jimmy more attention in this one.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

11. HOME IS WHERE THE HURT IS
INTERGANG has a Christmas present for Superman; a virus from Krypton that could destroy the MAN OF STEEL.

My Thoughts:
Well... it is Christmas time once again. While a good episode. This is my least favorite of the 3 Christmas episodes of the series.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

12. NEVER ON SUNDAY
Who do that voodoo? Wedding plans take a back seat when a master of magic haunts Clark with bizarre visions.

My Thoughts:
This is a good episode. I enjoyed it dealing with something on the lines of Voodoo.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

13. THE DAD WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD
Jimmy thinks his estranged father is an engineer. Instead, he's a suave spy with a lethal agenda.

My Thoughts:
Not a bad episode... but a bit on the average side. Never really impressed me much.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

14. TEMPUS, ANYONE?
Lois dead? Clark engaged to his hometown sweetheart? An alternate reality seems all too real to Lois.

My Thoughts:
Now this episode I enjoyed every minute of. Got to like the episodes involving H.G. Wells and Tempus! And it was fun to see another way the whole Superman storyline could have been.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5
