Mamma Mia!: The Movie, a review by Danae CassandraMamma Mia! Year of Release: 2008 Directed By: Phyllida Lloyd Starring: Amanda Seyfried, Stellan Skarsgard, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep Genre: Comedy, Romance, Musical Overview: Sophie has just one wish to make her wedding perfect: to have her father walk her down the aisle. Now she just has to find out who he is. Join the music, laughter and fun of the irresistibly charming Mamma Mia! The MovieMy Thoughts: This is sweet, frothy fun. It's a bit campy and goofy, but it makes it work. I'm still not convinced Amanda Seyfried can act, but the ensemble cast masks that. Christine Baranski's character is basically the chick she played in Cybil. Some of the singing is not that great; a number of these actors sound like regular people singing. But it's no worse than some other musicals I can think of. The setting is gorgeous and the film moves quickly from one number to the next quickly. It doesn't seem like a two-hour film to me. Not great cinema by any stretch, but a really enjoyable film. Unlike some other folks I don't need the resolution to some questions, as I'm happy with the decision that having the answer doesn't matter. My Thoughts: When I first heard they were making a remake of Poltergeist I was not very hopeful but curious. As the original has always been one of my favorites. I was even less hopeful when I read some bad reviews. But I must say I disagree with those bad reviews. I enjoyed this one quite a bit. I never really cared about the father in the original... but I think he was portrayed much better in this one. And lets face it we have better special effects now then we did back in the early '80s... and I feel they made this version more enjoyable. I also liked that this time we got to see the little girl in the other side and what the little girl had to go through. This doesn't take away from how much I love the original. It just gives me another option for the basic story. In my opinion this is a remake done right... I definitely feel it is worth the time put in to watch it. Redefinition Original Air Date: 1/16/2001 After firing his staff and cutting himself off from all help, Angel begins intense physical and mental training to become strong enough to stop Darla and Drusilla before they destroy the City of Angels. Guest Stars: Christian Kane Stephanie Romanov Nicolas Surovy Julie Benz Juliet Landau My Thoughts: Another episode I enjoyed a lot. I was concerned as I thought I remembered not caring for the episodes where Angel fired the gang. But at least for the first one... very entertaining. A also enjoyed seeing Angel going against Drusilla and Darla. They are worried now knowing this is not like Angel and is not Angelus. They have something totally different to worry about.
