Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace, a review by dfmorgan

Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace

A part of

Star Wars: The Complete Saga

Year: 1999
Director: George Lucas
Cast: Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman
Overview: Every generation has a legend. Every journey has a first step. Every saga has a beginning... Return to a galaxy far, far away in the first chapter of the mythic Star Wars saga.

Set 30 years before the original Star Wars film, Episode I introduces a young Anakin Skywalker, a boy with special powers, unaware that the journey he is beginning will transform him into the evil Darth Vader. Obi-Wan Kenobi, the wise old Jedi from the original trilogy, is a determined young apprentice and Palpatine, well-known as the evil Emperor, is an ambitious senator in the Galactic Republic.

It is a time when the Jedi Knights are the guardians of peace in a turbulent galaxy and a young queen fights to save her people. In the shadows lurks an evil force waiting for the right moment to strike.

With Episode I in your DVD collection, you can experience the excitement again and again. Feel the adrenaline of the Boonta Eve Podrace. Relive the intense lightsaber battles. Discover the incredible detail and breathtaking scope of this milestone in the Star Wars saga.

My Thoughts: I haven't watched the prequels as much as the original so cannot really state whether there are any modifications to this film. Whilst enjoyable it doesn't come up to the levels of enjoyment I get with the original trilogy. I have to say though that it was a good film in introducing the characters and build up for the next 2 films in this trilogy to give the setting and basis for the original trilogy.

My Rating: It was enjoyable but less than the originals so a 3+ +

Plot:
Once upon a time...

'a dazzling rendering of the Cinderella story' (The Washington Post) brought new life to an age-old legend and made us believe in the strongest magic of all: the power of the human heart. Drew Barrymore and Anjelica Huston star in this enchanting adventure about having the courage to make your dreams come true.

A 'modern' young woman of the 16th century, Danielle (Barrymore) is as independent and wise as she is beautiful and kind. Against remarkable odds, she stands up to her scheming stepmother (Huston) and works miracles on the lives of everyone around her, including the crown prince of France (Dougray Scott)!

Now you can relive this captivating contemporary retelling of the classic fairy tale. No matter what you're looking for, 'action, romance, adventure...'Ever After' delivers it all!' (ABC-TV)

My Thoughts:
One of my all-time favorite movies! Definately my favorite Cinderella adaption. I loved this movie since I first saw it in the theatres. It made me a fan of Drew Barrymore.
It is a take on the Cinderalla story without any mystical help of a fairy godmother and such (if you do not count Da Vinci as a godmother).
Also nice to see that it is not Prince Henry who saves Danielle at the last moment, but that she saved herself. Her expression on her face when he comes for her rescue is a "What are YOU doing here?!"

The 2013 Pilot Review, a review by DJ Doena

Sean Saves the World

Sean Saves the World @ IMDb
Sean Saves the World @ Wikipedia

Synopsis: Sean (Sean Hayes, Will & Grace) is a gay single dad. His ex-wife just moved away and left his 14-year old daughter with him. He's trying to be the best dad he can be but his job is also very demanding since he's gotten a very weird new box.

My Opinion: Laugh track sitcom that is mildly amusing. The home parts do mostly work though I'm beginning to wonder when the last time was we've seen a normal mom of an adult character on any show. What doesn't work is the work parts because the new boss is just absurd and not in a good way.
