X-15, a review by KinkyCyborg

Title:X-15

Rating: NR
Length: 107 Min.
Video: Widescreen 2.35:1
Audio: English: Dolby Digital: Mono
Subtitles: English, French, Spanish

Stars:
Charles Bronson

James Gregory
Lisabeth Hush
David McLean

Plot:
Before Top Gun, Apollo 13 or The Right Stuff, this breathtaking, jet-fueled journey of high-altitude filmmaking blasted audiences from zero-G to 4,000 miles per hour with its thrilling tale of America's victory in the space race. Starring David Mclean, Charles Bronson and Mary Tyler Moore, X-15 sets the sky as the limit - for excitement!

The courageous pilots of the Air Force's X-15 program are determined to take an experimental rocket 100 miles above the earth... at four times the speed of sound! At stake is American air supremacy and proof that space travel is possible. but also at stake are their lives... and the lives of the terrified wives they've left behind.

Extras:
Scene Access
Closed Captioned

My Thoughts:

I generally enjoy movies of historical significance but this one was a bit of a bore. About early experimental rockets that would eventually lead to the shuttle program, I found it repetitive and lacking any excitement. The special effects used for the scenes when the rocket exits the earths atmosphere were very campy, even by 1962's standards.

Charles Bronson, whom I'm used to doling out vigilante justice or squinting from beneath a cowboy hat was quite out of place in this one as a test pilot. Mary Tyler Moore's head of hair looked more like a helmet than the ones used by the pilots. James Stewart narrates.

If you are really into planes the monstrous, modified B-52's are quite impressive.

Plot:
From Walt Disney Pictures comes the magical retelling of Charles Dickens' beloved tale - Disney's A Christmas Carol, the high-flying, heartwarming adventure for the whole family, starring Jim Carrey. When three ghosts take penny-pinching Scrooge on an eye-opening journey, he discovers the true meaning of Christmas. Complete with spirited bonus features, this exhilarating and touching Disney classic is destined to be part of your holiday tradition, adding sparkle and heart to all your Christmases yet to come.

Extras:

  • Featurettes

My Thoughts:
I saw this movie in the cinema in 3D. It has good use of the 3D. I think this was the first time that I saw a faithful adaption of Christmas Carol. Before this I only knew the story from the many allusions in other stories, like Scrooged.
Since then I saw the George C. Scott version, which I also enjoyed. And I have the Patrick Stewart version and the Alistair version in my unwatched pile.
As an extra on this Blu-ray, you can watch the movie with the motion capture performance instead of the animation. Amazing what the actors achieved here. Especially Jim Carrey. It may be his best performance yet.

My Thoughts:
I didn't enjoy this season as much as the first one. If I would have watched it when it originally aired, I probably would have given up on the show.
In my season 1 review I said, that I was hoping it to be Logan who was at the door. Now it turned out that he was, but I didn't like the way they handled it. Through flashbacks we learn, that Veronica and Logan were a couple throughout the summer but broke up when he became an asshole again. I didn't like this. Season 1 was about him first being a little bit nasty, but growing closer to Veronica throughout the season and at the end of the season him being a likable character.
But then they start out this season with him being a bigger asshole than ever before. It just ruins the character development of the first season.
I am glad to see more of Mac, my favorite supporting character. But sadly they didn't pick up the storyline of her family life from season 1.
This season's mystery was mostly uninteresting to me, but it was nicely wrapped up at the end.
