My Boss, My Hero, a review by Tom
Stars: Jeong Jun-ho as Kye Doo-sik Jeong Ung-in as Kim Sang-doo Jeong Un-taeck as Dae Gah-ri Park Jun-gyu as Jo Bong-pal Oh Seung-eun as Lee Yoon-joo Plot: Kye Doo-sik (Jeong Jun-Ho), is a gang vice leader, after dropping out from high school. But Doo-sik's stunted education makes him the laughing stick of the gang, and he's commanded to return to his studies by his boss. Disguised as a 19 year old, Doo-sik has a hard time at school: he's whipped, blackmailed and bullied by both teachers and students ten years his junior. But before long, Doo-sik begins to notice violent corruption in the school. The school foundation director is funded by a gang organisation, and demands that teachers give rich students good marks so that they can get into top colleges. The loathsome director sexually harasses female teachers and defends a student's mother who beat a teacher. When a student Doo-sik knows is beaten to a pulp then expelled, Doo-sik rallies his henchmen and fellow students and sets out for revenge. Extras:
My Thoughts: After recently watching Gokusen and GTO again, I stumbled across this movie which sounded like a similar premise. Instead of a tough teacher (with gangster background in the case of Gokusen), a student with gangster background comes to school. I expected more of a comedy, but this movie is more serious with him dealing with a corrupt school.Rating: (From 2010 December Marathon - Discussion thread on December 24th, 2010) Trip with the Teacher, a review by addicted2dvdTitle: Trip with the Teacher Year: 1975 Director: Earl Barton Rating: R Length: 90 Min. Video: Full Frame 1.33:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital: Mono Subtitles: N/A Stars: Zalman King Brenda Fogarty Robert Porter Robert Gribbin Dina Ousley Jill Voigt Plot: A chilling experience in terror as a group of female students and their pretty teacher are ambushed, while on a field trip, by a sadistic killer and his brother, forcing the women to learn a lesson in survival. Extras: Scene Access My Thoughts: This is another movie that is in the Gorehouse Greats Collection. This time though... I enjoyed the movie. It alone was at least worth the cheap price I paid for the DVD set. Though I did find it to be pretty predictable. I pretty much new from the start who was going to be the hero of the story. I think Zalman King did a really good job as a psycho. He just had that crazy look about him. The last movie I watched in this set (Blood of Dracula's Castle) the quality of the video was terrible. While there was obvious problems with the video here... far from the best it could look... it was definitely an improvement over the other one. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From The Movies From Within My Lifetime on March 25th, 2011) My PILOT Marathon, a review by RichMARION & GEOFF - SERIES ONE - EP1 "I don`t feel like I`ve lost a wife, I feel like I`ve gained a friend. I would never have met Geoff if Marion hadn`t left me! Good morning, good morning! It`s a beautiful day and Keith is looking for a fare. With the cab`s radio on the right channel he might even find one...Separated from his wife Marion and missing his `little smashers` Rhys and Alun, the `man with no home` is always optimistic. Marion`s lover Geoff may be something hot in pharmaceuticals, but Keith Barrett is `in cars`, literally. Keith is always popping up to Cardiff to keep an eye on Marion and the kids (through his binoculars). The trouble is, he`s always a bit early and they never want to see him. Still - another day, another dollar! Apart from a little trapped wind and his impending divorce, life for Keith is lovely, smashing and very nice. After seeing Rob Brydon live, I had high hopes for this series. But if the first episode is anything to judge this by, I was disappointed overall by the lack of originality and humour, in fact I felt quite depressed by the storyline which revolves around a lonely loser who craves everything he has lost, all shot inside his taxi. I will not rush to finish this series. (From My PILOT Marathon on May 18th, 2008) |
