The Day the Earth Stood Still, a review by RichThe Day the Earth Stood Still Coulda, shoulda, woulda - why isn't this better? What an opportunity, great ahead of its time original film some 50 years ago, huge budget, some amazing CGI special effects, highly paid cast - but somewhere along the line it became satisfied at being an average film, when it might have been a great sci-fi epic. From the superb originals backdrop of the cold war, emphasis is now on the issue of global warming. Reeves never appears emotionally attached to this film (as opposed to Matrix), Jennifer Connolly is shocking, the storyline clumsy with a truly hopeless ending. Too much 'America is the only nation' message, very little thought-provoking state of our worlds health questions. The pace was ok, the film fortunately went quite quickly, and the effects at times a saviour. However overall you will be disappointed by this remake, save your money and rewatch the original! This is Hollywood cashing-in. (From Riches Random Reviews on April 9th, 2009) Tremors, a review by addicted2dvd
Stars: Kevin Bacon Fred Ward Finn Carter Michael Gross Reba McEntire Bobby Jacoby Plot: Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward star as two country handymen who lead a cast of zany characters to safety in this exciting sci-fi creature comedy. Just as Val McKee (Bacon) and Earl Basset (Ward) decide to leave Perfection, Nevada, strange rumblings prevent their departure. With the help of a shapely seismology student (Finn Carter), they discover their desolate town is infested with gigantic man-eating creatures that live below the ground. The race is on to overcome these slimy subterraneans and find a way to higher ground, in this enjoyable thriller co-starring Michael Gross and Reba McEntire. Extras: Scene Access Feature Trailers Deleted Scenes Featurettes Gallery Production Notes Closed Captioned My Thoughts: This is a movie that for some reason I always enjoyed... ever since I brought it home the very first time... when I rented it on VHS. Wow that was a long time ago. One thing I really liked about this... is you don't have to be a horror fan to enjoy this monster movie. My brother (who hates horror) loves this series of movies. This is what I personally call a "light horror". It is a nice mix of horror and comedy. And even now when I watch it (after watching the entire series of Reba) don't recognize Reba McIntyre when she is on the screen... though her voice with her accent is unmistakable. The DVD release is really good. nice quality and a nice collection of extras! What more can you ask? My Rating Out of a Possible 5 Count: Movie Count: 18 TV Ep. Count: 11 Other Count: 0 Time Started: 5:30pm (From Month Long Horror/Halloween Marathon: 2010 on October 7th, 2010) The One Where It All Began: The Pilot Marathon, a review by DJ DoenaThe Dukes of Hazzard What's the show about? The Duke cousins Bo and Luke live together with their other cousin Daisy and their uncle on a farm in Hazzard County. The Dukes were once moonshiners and they still can make a good corn whiskey. All of the Dukes often get in trouble with the corrupt Sheriff and Boss Hogg but they can always beat them. "One Armed Bandits" Boss Hogg and Sheriff Rosco P. Coltraine try to smuggle illegal slot machines into Hazzard County. But Bo, Luke & Daisy hijack the "fertilizer" truck and use the slot machines to keep the orphanage open. My Opinion Did you know that they scrapped over 300 Dodge Chargers to make that show? The only season I didn't like was the one where just another pair of cousins came to Hazzard County and Bo and Luke went off to drive races.
