General / BlueBrixx Big Mothership (spoiler: It's the Galactica)

Let me take you on a journey.

Let's start with: I'm not a model builder. Some people are talked about as having two left hands. I don't even have that. I am very clumsy and unskilled in anything that needs precise motor functions with your hands and fingers (or feet for that matter).

When I was a kid in East German we would have the local version of LEGO® bricks called "PEBE":

I enjoyed playing with them. But as I grew up, I left that part behind me, I never played with LEGO®s as an adult. But I enjoy collectible models for the TV shows that I like, for example this:

Then I happened to be in a toy store in Frankfurt/Main that exclusively sells Klemmbausteine. "Klemmbausteine" is the generic German term for "click bricks" for when they aren't licensed LEGO®s (and that company is petty).

Just for giggles I bought three tiny sets (~75 bricks per set) for the old East German default car, the Trabant (or Trabbi in slang):

I'm stuck in the "Add now" button because it won't add the profile if it can't download it from Invelos.

The only other way I can think of is to create a manual profile without download and then change UPC afterwards.

TV Series / Hello North America, Goodbye North America

So,

this evening I'm going to leave Canada and I am going home to Germany ... except I've been back in Germany for the past two weeks ...

On May 30th my mum and I flew to Toronto with the intention of staying a week and then driving up the Saint Lawrence River to Ottawa, Montréal and Quebec City.

We arrived in Toronto at 12:00am (Monday to Tuesday) local time (5 hours delayed flight) and were quite tired and then my mom took a wrong step down the stairs and hurt her knee. The next day we wanted to take our first visit to Old Toronto when it started to hurt badly. So after a short visit we returned and made it a short evening (still being ahead 6 hours biologically anyway). Wednesday she was in bed all day hurting, so on Thursday morning at 4:00am I decided to take her to Toronto General where we were until 10:00am. She got a shot in her arm that numbed the pain somehwat and we returned to our apartment.

By Thursday evening it became clear that it would not get any better so we rebooked and got a return flight on Monday, June 6th. We've been home since the 7th.

But being somewhat stuck in that apartment for alomost a week I got a taste of North American live television and I pity you. I watched Hudson & Rex (a remake of the Austrian show Kommissar Rex and the dog actor is actually a descendant of the original Rex dog actor) and Private Eyes which takes place in Toronto.

But you've got ad breaks seemingly every 4 minutes and the episodes appear in constant loop (this was were I truly understood the 100 episode rule for syndication). And the ads were always the same! I bet I saw this group of ads at least 30 times in that one week.

And when watching a US channel I learned that there are elections for govenor in New York state apparantly and every single candidate is going to LOWER YOUR TAXES!!! (No one explained how they're going to pay for the crumbling infrastructure, but they will lower your taxes!).

My mum is on the mend, we've already been to the orthopedist and now we're cursious about the incoming bill from Toronto General. Luckily we've paid 24 Euros for a travel health insurance for Canada.  :phew:

Invelos Software Related / Add by DVD Disc Id
« on: February 13, 2021, 06:13:39 PM »
As you might be aware there is an issue with DVD Profiler since the release of the Windows 10 Fall 2018 Update (version 1809). It is documented in this thread in the contribution forums.

To help with this issue, mediadogg has added functionality to his BulkEdit plugin.

And now I've also created a plugin to be able to add DVD Disc ID profiles with their proper ID:

General / The Dresden Files
« on: February 10, 2021, 11:44:40 PM »
Slightly off topic for this forum, even though there is a (to be ignored) TV show about the series.

There's a book series out there with currently 17 (of an estimated 20) books published. Each book has ~300 pages and can be read on a weekend.

It's about a real wizard (Harry Dresden) living in modern day Chicago. He's a PI and solves crimes of the supernatural kind that the general public can't handle and chooses to turn a blind eye towards.

The first book is not the best written novel but it already pulls you in and it goes only up from there.

Jim Butcher, the author, draws from all kinds of Human mythology and mixes them all together. Whatever creature you ever heard of, in Dresden's world that creature probably exists.

Aside from the written novels, all are also available on Audible (with excerpt track) and all are read by James Marsters (Spike on Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Just like the first novel, the audio book was a new experience for Marsters, so it's a bit rougher, but he grows into the role quickly and for me, Marsters' voice will forever be that of Harry Dresden.
