Saludos Amigos, a review by Danae CassandraSaludos Amigos Year of Release: 1942 Directed By: Bill Roberts, Jack Kinney, Ham Luske, Wilfred Jackson Starring: Fred Shields, Jose Oliveira Genre: Comedy, Animation, Musical Overview: Direct from the vault, Disney's 6th full-length animated film, Saludos AmigosSaludos Amigos is a hilarious visual feast that will entertain and delight the whole family. My Thoughts: Saludos Amigos is considered one of Disney's lesser efforts, and its not hard to see why. That's not to say this is a bad film, only that it will never be counted among my favorites. It's also not my least favorite. The framing story dates this film; those psuedo-documentary sections are condescending. The cartoons are fun. My favorites were the beautiful Aquarela do Brasil and the amusing El Gaucho Goofy. The other two are good, but I didn't find them to be quite as good. I do wish Disney didn't feel the need to censor their earlier films for our "enjoyment." A bit of smoking has been excised from El Gaucho Goofy, and though it's lack doesn't hinder enjoying the short, censorship is a terrible thing. I'd like to see the package films come out on blu-ray - Saludos would make a nice 2-pack with The Three Caballeros. Stars: Cedric Hardwicke Vincent Price Nan Grey John Sutton Cecil Kellaway Alan Napier Plot:Extras: Scene Access My Thoughts: This is the first time I have watched this movie. And once again I enjoyed it very much. Same type of great effects... this time done slightly better. An interesting story that held my attention throughout... and horror legend Vincent Price as The Invisible Man. How can you go wrong? But I must admit... this is one of the older movies I have seen with Vincent Price.... and I really didn't recognize him! If it wasn't for his name in the credits... I would never have realized it was him. This movie has great image and sound quality (at least on my standard 24in TV). It was a true joy to watch. My Rating Out of a Possible 5 Count: Movie Count: 65 TV Ep. Count: 32 Other Count: 8 I Made It! When this series started, I did not think that it would become a series which is not just a cheap remake of the original. But now in season 4 they are still going strong. The documentary style is still enjoyable, but it has become really unbelievable. For four years this camera crew with multiple cameras has followed them around now and they never got in the shot of each other's cameras Due to the writer's strike this season was a couple of episodes short. But five of the episodes are twice the runtime as usual which makes it like watching 19 instead of 14 episodes. Also there are a lot of deleted scenes available. About 10-20 minutes per episodes. These were obviously cut for time and and not for bad quality. Rating: (From Tom's Random Reviews on September 13th, 2008) |
