The Road Warrior, a review by addicted2dvdTitle: The Road Warrior Year: 1981 Director: George Miller (1945) Rating: R Length: 95 Min. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 2.35:1, Pan & Scan 1.33:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital 5.1, French: Dolby Digital Surround Subtitles: English, Spanish Stars: Mel Gibson as Max Bruce Spence as The Gyro Captain Mike Preston as Pappagallo Max Phipps as The Toadie Vernon Wells as Wez Plot: In the annals of action movies few can compare with The Road Warrior, a full-throttle epic of speed and carnage that rockets you into a dreamlike landscape where the post-nuclear future meets the mythological past. More simply, it's also one of the most mind-blowing stunt movies ever made. Before he took aim in three Lethal Weapons and starred in 1994's Maverick, Mel Gibson had already made his mark on movie history as Max, the heroic loner who drives the roads of outback Australia in an unending search for gasoline. Arrayed against him and the other scraggly defenders of a fuel-depot encampment are the bizarre warriors commanded by The Humungus, notorious for never taking prisoners when they can pulverize them instead. When the battle is joined, the results are savage, spectacular and "a smashing good time at the movies" (Sheila Benson, Los Angeles Times). With The Road Warrior on your side, screen action doesn't get any better. Extras: Scene Access Trailers Production Notes Closed Captioned My Thoughts: I know I have seen this movie back when it was first released. But going into it today... the only thing I remember about it is that I enjoyed it. What little I remembered I was right about. This is a good movie... though not something I see myself being able to watch very often. But I would like to at the very least get Mad Max in my collection to go with it. The DVD itself is a decent release. It has both the widescreen and Fullscreen versions of the movie on a double sided disc. It really don't have that much for extras. But I definitely can't complain. It is a good movie with a standard DVD release. BTW... it is one that I got for free when our good friend Achim sent it to me in a DVD Care Package. Thanks Again Achim! Now I just wish I had the other Mad Max movies to watch today! My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Weekend Movie Marathon: 2/19 - 2/21 on February 20th, 2010) The Day After Tomorrow, a review by DJ DoenaDennis Quaid ... Jack Hall Jake Gyllenhaal ... Sam Hall Emmy Rossum ... Laura Chapman Dash Mihok ... Jason Evans Jay O. Sanders ... Frank Harris Sela Ward ... Dr. Lucy Hall Austin Nichols ... J.D. Arjay Smith ... Brian Parks Tamlyn Tomita ... Janet Tokada Sasha Roiz ... Parker Ian Holm ... Terry Rapson Synopsis: When a huge ice shell the size of Rhode Island breaks off the arcic shelf, Dr. Hall warns the scientific community that a climatic shift is coming. And it actually is but it comes even faster than Dr. Hall had expected it. But nobody believes Hall until it's too late for many people. The north-atlantic current is breaking down and the temperatures in the northern hemisphere are quickly dropping below zero and people start to die by the thousands. And Hall's son is stuck in New York, fighting for survival. My Opinion: (From The "What I watch when I don't watch TV shows" thread on December 14th, 2008) Charmed Marathon, a review by addicted2dvdDisc 3: 8. Little Monsters The Charmed Ones believe that they can raise a half-demon infant to not be evil when they become foster parents after vanquishing the demon's parent. My Thoughts: This is a good but standard episode. Basically all I really can say about it. 9. Chris-Crossed When a witch from an elite assassin family arrives to take Chris back to the future, The Charmed Ones must pull together to save him. My Thoughts: This one is a really good episode. In this one we find out the reason Chris came from the future... what he is trying to save Wyatt from. 10. Witchstock Paige is transported back in time via a pair of Gram's magical go-go boots. Piper and Phoebe must prevent Paige from changing the past and disrupting the lineage of The Charmed Ones. My Thoughts: This is an episode that is just done for fun. Making Grams a '60s flower child. But what I think was the funniest was how they portrayed the '60s Leo. 11. Prince Charmed Piper's overprotective tendency toward her son causes her to swear off men for the rest of her life. Paige and Phoebe conjure up a Mr. Right to remind Piper of the importance of love. My Thoughts: This is a good episode... but not what I would consider a great one. In this one the sisters finally find out what it is that Chris is trying to save Wyatt from... which we (the viewers) found out a couple episodes ago. (From Charmed Marathon on July 7th, 2008) |
