House of the Damned, a review by addicted2dvd

House of the Damned
A perfect romantic getaway turns into a hellish nightmare in this suspense-filled thriller! Architect Scott Campbell ('Ronald Foster') and his wife Nancy ('Merry Anders') join another couple, Joseph and Loy Schiller ('Richard Crane' and 'Erika Peters'), for what promises to be a pleasant stay at an empty castle set on a seculded California hillside. Soon, however, tension mounts as terrifying things begin happening: A group of ghoulish circus performers who once inhabited the castle become increasingly hostile towards their "guests," turning their mini-vacation into a life-and-death challenge of wits!

My Thoughts:
I got this DVD this past October for $5 at Walmart during their Halloween sale. I got it based on a good friend's suggestion that knew I was wanting to check out more classic movies. I got to say... I really enjoyed this one... it is not something that is really scary... actually nothing more then slightly suspenseful. But enjoyable all the same. I am glad I decided to add it to my classics collection. Of course the movie is in Black & White... but the dvd has both widescreen and the Pan and Scam version... as well as a couple extras... the Theatrical Trailer (yay!) and a Photo Gallery of the Movie Posters.

Inspired by the legendary 1936 film of the same name, Reefer Madness is a tongue-in-cheek raucous musical comedy about clean-cut kids who fall into a twisted, hilarious downward spiral of reefer, sex and mayhem! A straight-laced high school lecturer (Alan Cumming) seeks to impart his wisdom to frightened parents about the "demon weed" by telling the frightful tale of two innocent teens. Mary Lane (Kristen Bell) and Jimmy Harper (Christian Campbell), who fall under the spell of the public's enemy #1 and quickly find themselves in a world of evil jazz music, dance and madness. Filled with outrageously funny and musical performances by Neve Campbell, Christian Campbell, Kristen Bell and Steven Weber, Reefer Madness is the feel good event of the year that should not be missed!

My Thoughts:

I found this one on Amazon Prime and decided to give it a chance since it stars Kristen Bell. And while I know what the movie was attempting to do...I personally just couldn't get into it much. I mean it does have it's moments here and there... but for the most part I struggled to finish it. I was actually surprised this one had such a high rating on IMDB (7.1). While I like to collect the works of Kristen Bell... not sure I can add this one to my collection.
