Tenebre, a review by JimmyMOVIE / DVD INFO: Title: Tenebre (1982) Genre: Horror Director: Dario Argento Rating: NR Length: 1h41 Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85:1 Audio: English and Italian Subtitles: English Stars: Anthony Franciosa Daria Nicolodi Giuliano Gemma John Saxon Christian Borromeo Plot: My Thoughts: When Dario Argento is at the top of his game he is the best italian movie maker and more often than not he is. This is another excellent thriller from him in the tradition of the best italian Giallo. As usual the fun with a Giallo is to try to find who is the killer while watching and with a weak one we find it fast, but not in this case since all my guess were wrong and I didn't got it untill the end. Some of the murder are quite violent and the effects, as usual with the italian crew, are well done. Since it's an Argento's movie there is also some beautifull visual (I really like the long camera tracking shot before a particular moment I can't evidently talk about). The only downside is the dubbing (whatever you watch it in italian or in english this is dubbed) as some acting seem weak wich isn't the case (certainly not for Lara Wendel who is a very experienced actress, but the dubbing make her sounds like a wooden newcommer).Easy to recommand since it's one of the best film of Argento. After hearing of the heroic death of a young Marine in Iraq, veteran officer Lt. Colonel Michael Strobl (Kevin Bacon) volunteers to escort the remains of Lance Corporal Chance Phelps back to his hometown, where he embarks on an unexpected emotional journey. In this drama, Kevin Bacon stars as a high-ranking military officer who takes on a surprising mission: he escorts the body of a PFC home to his family. My Review: Very short film, which is basically a sentimental and moving tribute of how the services escort home and honour their fallen heroes, from battlefield death to the funeral service. This was written by the serviceman who volunteered to escort home a soldier who was KIA in Iraq, and the extras on the disc cover this. It has political undertones, but is deliberately non-controversial and the focus is mainly on the dead serviceman, and the office based marine who goes through a myriad of guilt feelings as he escorts the soldier back to his family. From a non-US citizen, it always amazes me that a country that can honour it's dead, with such compassion and dignity, and displays such huge respect and unity with its armed services, can have such social problems with guns, drugs, violence and murder? Is that contradiction what they call an oxymoron?? My Thoughts: Last night I finished off this set... and enjoyed every minute of it. I have been a fan of John Ritter every since first seeing him in Three's Company. And I been a fan of Kaley Cuoco for a bit now as well. I found this series to be a lot of fun... contains lots of laughs. It is a shame we lost John Ritter at the beginning of the second season. Despite that loss I want to add the second season to my collection... hopefully before too long so I can see how the show went on without him. This first season set has a surprising high number of episodes considering it isn't that old of a series. Favorite episode of this season? I guess I would have to go with Come and Knock On Our Door where they poke a little fun at Three's Company. Where John Ritter's character has a dream that both daughters are living with one guy... and he is in the place of Mr. Roper. It even looks like the same exact apartment from Three's Company. I thought it was a clever thing to do... was a lot of fun to watch. The only real extra on this set is a Blooper Reel. But if we were only going to get one extra on this set... I am glad we got this... as I had just as many laughs watching this short Blooper Reel as I did the entire season of the show. And that is saying a lot! The Blooper Reel made it look like they had a blast on the set working with John Ritter as it seemed he made the set a lot of fun to work on. If you never seen this series you should definitely give it a chance! My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Addicted2dvd's Random TV Series Watched on December 23rd, 2011) |
