Shrek Forever After: The Final Chapter, a review by dfmorgan

Shrek Forever After: The Final Chapter

Year: 2010
Director: Mike Mitchell
Cast: Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz

OverviewWatched: 22nd. Jan 2011
My Thoughts: The fourth and supposedly final chapter in the Shrek saga. Shrek (Mike Myers) is suffering from mid-life angst where every day has settled down into a standard routine. Matters come to a head and Shrek signs a contract with Rumpelstiltskin (Walt Dohrn) whereby Shrek is granted a day to relive his days as a feared ogre and Rumpelstiltskin receives a day from Shrek. However the day that Rumpelstiltskin receives from Shrek has ramifications far and beyond what Shrek imagined and now Shrek must try to stop Rumpelstiltskin's machinations. Overall I did enjoy this film and it seemed to me to be better than the third but still not as good as the first or second.

My Rating: An enjoyable 3

Audio: English: Dolby Digital: 2-Channel Stereo, Commentary: Dolby Digital: 2-Channel Stereo
Subtitles:

Stars:
Hal Havins

Plot:
It's Halloween night and Angela is throwing a party, but this is no ordinary spook bash. Everybody's headed to Hull House, a deserted funeral home with a shocking secret in its past and something evil alive in its basement. Now the guests are becoming possessed, and this party's treats include tongue ripping, eyeball gouging, gratuitous nudity, bloody dismemberment and more. Welcome to the blowout where all Hell is breaking loose: You're invited to NIGHT OF THE DEMONS!

Scream Queen Linnea Quigley stars in this twisted '80s splatter-fest dirrected by Kevin S. Tenney (WITCHBOARD) and featuring grisly gore effects by Steve Johnson (DEAD HEAT, SPECIES). NIGHT OF THE DEMONS is presented totally uncut and uncensored and loaded with exclusive new extras for the first time ever on DVD.

Extras:
Scene Access
Audio Commentary
Feature Trailers
Featurettes

My Thoughts:
This is classic '80s horror. The kind of horror I grew up with... so I definitely have a soft spot for it.This one is definitely a no-brainer popcorn type movie... just a sit back... relax and get lost in the nonsense. Even though I would say this one is basically a low budget horror... I would also say it is at the high end of low budget horrors... if that makes any sense to you.  While watching it you don't feel low-budget coming from it... decent effects... including some pretty cool looking demons.  Not to mention it is perfect for this time of the year since it takes place during Halloween. Was definitely worth the 90min I put into the movie.

My Rating
Out of a Possible 5

Tom's Random Star Trek Reviews, a review by Tom

VOY 7.11. Lineage
Writer: James Kahn (Writer)
Director: Peter Lauritson
Cast: Kate Mulgrew (Captain Kathryn Janeway), Robert Beltran (Chakotay), Roxann Dawson (B'Elanna Torres), Robert Duncan McNeill (Tom Paris), Ethan Phillips (Neelix), Robert Picardo (The Doctor), Tim Russ (Tuvok), Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine), Garrett Wang (Harry Kim), Manu Intiraymi (Icheb), Juan Garcia (John Torres), Jessica Gaona (Young B'Elanna), Javier Grajeda (Carl), Paul Robert Langdon (Dean), Nicole Sarah Fellows (Elizabeth), Gilbert R. Leal (Michael), Majel Barrett (Computer Voice (voice))

The first full-blown P/T episode without any "Voyager is in danger" side-story detracting from the character-driven plot.
B'Elanna and Tom learn that they are expecting a baby. The beginning of the episode is about the reactions from the crew and of course the reaction from Tom and B'Elanna. The story then focuses on B'Elanna's fear about the child's mixed heritage. Through flashbacks we see a camping trip with her father from her childhood, and how her father left soon after because living with two Klingons was too hard on him. B'Elanna fears that the same will happen with Tom and so she wants to have the Klingon genetic trademarks removed from here baby, even going so far to reprogram the doctor to go along with it. Tom can convince her that he is nothing like her father just in time.
It is really nice to see that they can write an entire episode about this relationship, and address a fear of B'Elanna's which was mentioned throughout the series, without moving it to a B-story of a standard Voyager episode.
