Night of the Demons (1988), a review by Jimmy

MOVIE / DVD INFO:

Title: Night of the Demons (1988)

Genre: Horror
Director: Kevin Tenney
Rating: NR
Length: 1h30
Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85:1
Audio: English
Subtitles: None

Stars:
Allison Barron
Amelia Kinkade
Linnea Quigley
Alvin Alexis
Billy Gallo

Plot:
It's Halloween night and Angela is throwing a party, but this is no ordinary spook bash. Everybody's headed to Hull House, a deserted funeral home with a shocking secret in its past and something evil alive in its basement. Now the guests are becoming possessed, and this party's treats include tongue ripping, eyeball gouging, gratuitous nudity, bloody dismemberment and more. Welcome to the blowout where all Hell is breaking loose: You're invited to NIGHT OF THE DEMONS!

My Thoughts:
The plot said it all, so don't expect to be surprise... not that it is a bad thing. In fact it's a pretty good eighties special effects showcase who doesn't felt long at all. We got a good karma hit at the end and the script sure didn't played the stereotypical survivors at the end (at least for one of them).

Not sure if someone who wasn't there in the eighties would like that film, but I was there so I love it :P

The Santa Clause 2, a review by addicted2dvd

The Santa Clause 2
Walt Disney Pictures presents an all-new comedy adventure overflowing with holiday cheer. Tim Allen reappears in 'Santa Clause 2' , the hilarious sequel to everybody's holiday favorite. Scott Calvin (Allen) has been Santa for the past 8 years, and his loyal elves consider him the best one ever. But Scott's got problems. His son Charlie landed on this year's "naughty" list, and if Scott doesn't marry before Christmas Eve - one very, very short month away - he'll stop being Santa forever. Embracing Chrsitmas and the magic of family with heart, warmth, fun and charm, 'Santa Clause 2' is classic holiday entertainment everybody will enjoy again and again.

My Thoughts:
This is a pretty good sequel. I enjoyed it quite a bit. But this one was not as good as the first one. I think the only real problem I have with it is the whole Toy Santa storyline. That part just didn't feel right to me, personally. Other then that I enjoyed every minute of it... and watch it every year right after watching "The Santa Clause"... it never fails... I always have to have a double feature when watching these movies.

I don't have part 3 of this series yet.... and I have heard some bad things about it. But as much as I enjoyed the first 2 I still MUST see the 3rd one once I can get my hands on it.

Angel Marathon, a review by DJ Doena

Disc 3

Harm's Way
Synopsis: Harmony doesn't feel like she is accepted, neither by Angel nor by her colleagues. When she awakes one day on the side of a dead man - bitten by a vampire - she panics because Angel has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to the killing of humans.

My Opinion: Very funny episode from the POV of a recurring character. But Angel does treat her very dismissively. Unfortunately it's hard to translate episode titles like this into other languages. German episode titles have a tendency to spoil the episode. Not only with this but most TV shows. For example: Imagine a science fiction show episode where someone makes a clone of himself but this would only be revealed at the end of the episode. The original title would be something like "Look Upon Yourself". Most likely the german title would be "Der Klon" ("The Clone").
And I am not alone in that assessment.

Soul Purpose
Synopsis: Angel has more often and longer lasting dreams that tell him that he is not the chosen one of the Shanshu prophecy. Lindsey on the other hand represents himself to Spike as "Doyle" and declares that it was him who made Spike corporeal again and that he has visions from the "Powers That Be".

My Opinion: If they couldn't get Sarah Michelle Gellar Prinze for a guest appearance, they shouldn't have done this. It didn't felt real. But the rest of the episode was good, I liked the scene where Fred disembowels Angel like a shark.
PS: "Soul Purpose" was the only episode in "Angel" that one of the cast (David Boreanaz) directed.

Damage
Synopsis: A young woman with great strength escapes from a mental institution. As it turns out, she was one of the potential Slayers and is now - thanks to Willow's spell - a Vampire Slayer. Now she's after Spike whom she believes to be her former torturer.

My Opinion: Even Buffy thinks that it was a bad idea that Angel took the job of CEO at Wolfram & Hart's. The episode was average, but the self-reflection of Spike at the end and the appearance of 12 Slayers raised it a bit. It's sad that we haven't met Buffy personally, I thought there would be another crossover after the "Buffy" finale.
