Nói Albinói, a review by Danae Cassandra

Overview:My Thoughts:
This is the story of a bright, bored young man with lots of potential and nothing to do with it.  His brilliant intellect is stifled by school, his dreams are suffocated by the isolation he is in.  He meets the new girl in town, and for a moment in his life there is a bright spark and he hopes of escape.

This is very much a character study of a brilliant, disaffected, isolated teenager and the life he is leading, drifting in and out of school, from one activity to another, unsure of where he is going, what he wants, or what the future will hold.  Only sure that he wants to get out of here and do something.

The cinematography choices enforces the isolated, lonely feeling - everything is white, blue and gray, snow and ice.  Cold and bleak.  Excellently done for this film.

Recommended for lovers of art films.  I enjoyed it, but it's not for everyone.

Bechdel Test:  Fail

Overall:  3.5/5

Blade, a review by Dragonfire

Blade

Wesley Snipes stars as the tortured soul Blade - half man, half immortal. Blade sharpens his lethal skills under the guidance of Whistler (Kris Kristofferson), his mentor, guardian and fellow hunter of the night. When the bloodthirsty Immortals' lord, Deacon Frost (Stephen Dorff), declares war on the human race, Blade is humanity's last hope for survival.

My Thoughts

I wasn't aware that Blade was a comic book character until well after I had seen this movie.  From what I've read, it sounds like a lot has been changed about the character from the comic book.    I can't remember if I rented this one at first or if I saw it tv.  The idea of a character that is considered half human and half vampire who hunts vampires is interesting to me.  The plot is interesting and makes for an entertaining movie even though it isn't that complicated.  Most of what happens is just focused on Blade fighting vampires and Deacon trying to put his plan in motion.  Karen trying to come up with a cure is also interesting, though it doesn't get that much attention overall really.  The action scenes are done well.  The violence does get graphic in some scenes, which could bother some viewers.  The characters are interesting for the most part and the cast does fine.

I do think this is a good vampire movie that is worth checking out....it just isn't great.

I did get a review posted on Epinions.

The One Where It All Began: The Pilot Marathon, a review by DJ Doena

Supernatural

What's the show about?
Dean and Sam Winchester are brothers. 22 years ago a yellow-eyed demon killed their mother. Since then their father has been on the hunt for all kinds of supernatural beings and phenomenon.  Sam once tried to get out of the "family business" but after his father went missing and his girlfriend was murdered in the very same way his mother was he has rejoined with his brother. They fight against vampires, ghosts and everything else you dare not think about in the middle of the night.

"Pilot"
22 years ago. John Winchester has to evacuate his son Dean and infant son Sam out of the house after something pinned his wife onto the ceiling and set her on flames. Present day. Sam has stopped hunting two years ago and studies at Stanford now. But suddenly his brother Dean stands in the door and announces that their dad has gone missing while being on a hunt. Sam agrees to accompany Dean on this one thing to find their father - only 'til Monday.

My Opinion
I was never really into horror stories, but shows like Buffy and Angel brought me closer to the topic and since I liked Jensen Ackles in Smallville's fourth season I thought to give it a try. And it's a great show. Except for the fact that there's a monster of the week every episode is totally different due to the very nature of the supernatural being. There's also an overall story arc that includes the yellow-eyed demon, fallen angels and the apocalypse.
