Felon, a review by Rich10/11 Felon A loving family man with a promising future, Wade Porter (Stephen Dorff) suddenly loses everything when he accidentally kills the burgler who broke into his home. Convicted of involuntary manslaughter, Wade is sentenced to spend the next three years inside a maximum security facility where the rules of society no longer apply. Forced to share a cell with a notorious mass murderer (Val Kilmer) and subjected to brutal beatings orchestrated by the sadistic head prison guard (Harold Perrineau), Wade soon realizes he's in for the fight of his life and must become the toughest FELON of them all if he's to survive the block. For what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. And in state prison, only the strongest will survive. Uninspiring and over-done storyline, innocent guy protects family, ends up in rough tough jail, meets mad killer who turns out to be great guy etc etc. However, they have done it very well here and turned out a respectable movie. 2 of my least favourite actors shine here, Dorff is excellent as the average Joe suddenly finding himself banged up, and Kilmer in particular is very convincing as the sadistic killer that other inmates fear. The violence portrayed is harsh and graphic, it suits the films content but may not be to everyones taste. As an aside, is it just me or has the violent content in many American films lately turned up a notch and is more sadistic and unpleasant to view? Perhaps it may just be me getting older I would happily recommend this film with an (From November Alphabet Marathon - Discussion/Review Thread on November 11th, 2008) Captain America (1979), a review by addicted2dvd

My Thoughts: While I did have a lot of fun watching this movie. I felt it took too long for Steve Rogers to agree to become Captain America... and MUCH too long before we got to see him in the costume. Unfortunately they also modernize the costume as well. In this first movie there is actually two versions of the costume. The first one looked more like something Evel Knievel would wear. The second (at the very end of the movie) was much closer indeed... but still way off from what you see in the comics and animation. Yes this is very cheesy... and a definite sign of the times. Whenever Captain America uses his powers you heard a sound effect to let you know. Very similar to the series of the time... The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman. The one thing that was missing is that Captain America never throws his shield at all in this movie. I enjoyed this movie in a nostalgic sort of way. It really brought my back to my childhood. Though I would have liked to have seen more Captain America in it. But I guess that is to be expected for the origin story. Stars: Dean Cain as Clark Kent/Superman Teri Hatcher as Lois Lane Lane Smith as Perry White Justin Whalin as Jimmy Olsen Eddie Jones as Jonathan Kent K Callan as Martha Kent Extras:
My Thoughts: I just finished this season. While I still enjoyed it quite a bit. This is actually my least favorite season of the series. It got a bit tiresome how they kept Lois and Clark apart. And I really didn't care for the whole frogs/clone storyline. That said... it did end on a high note. One that set up the fourth season really nicely. Once again there are many guest stars that I recognized this season. In the third season there was Peter Boyle, Bruce Campbell, Patrick Labyorteaux, Jonathan Frakes, Dave Coulier, James Read, Fred Willard, Brad Garrett, Tony Curtis and Justine Bateman. When I first started to re-watch this series I was actually only planning on watching the pilot episode... or at the most the first disc of the first set. I got so into this series again that I have now completed the third season... and I still don't feel like I want to stop... so about to start the fourth (and final) season! My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Addicted2dvd's Random TV Series Watched on August 7th, 2011) |
