Bran Nue Dae, a review by Critter

Bran Nue Dae

Director: Rachel Perkins

Writer: Reg Cribb

Plot: In the Summer of 1965 a young man is filled with the life of the idyllic old pearling port Broome - fishing, hanging out with his mates and his girl. However his mother returns him to the religious mission for further schooling. After being punished for an act of youthful rebellion, he runs away from the mission on a journey that ultimately leads him back home.

Cast:My Thoughts
Bran Nue Dae is the most refreshing Australian film I have seen in a long time. Based on a stage musical (yes the film is a musical, which is something I enjoy quite a lot) Bran Nue DaeBran Nue DaeAustraliaRating: 4/5

Tautly directed by Jack Sholder (A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge, The HiddenCrimes and Misdemeanors), 12:01 is a spirited sci-fi thriller you'll enjoy again and again! It's Back to the Future meets Groundhog Day!

My Thoughts:
This TV movie came out the same year as Groundhog Day and has a similar premise. A day repeats itself and only one guy remembers the previous time loops. I always thought this movie was made to profit from the release of Groundhog Day. But now I have read that Groundhog Day supposedly stole the idea from the 12:01 PM short movie which came three years previously, which itself was based on a short story written in the 70s.
Overall I enjoyed this movie even though it has its weaknesses. The main weakness is the lead Jonathan Silverman. I don't like his performance in this movie. Helen Slater on the other hand did a good job with what she was given.

It took a long time, that Enterprise found its footing. Shortly before it was cancelled it became worth watching. All modern Star Trek shows only starting becoming as great as what they are remembered for beginning with their third or fourth season. For Enterprise though this was too late.
The pilot is rather weak and not really engaging.
