Pirates of Silicon Valley, a review by AntaresPirates of Silicon Valley (1999) 65/100 - Informative, if somewhat hackneyed attempt at telling the story of the personal computer industries infancy. It definitely doesn't paint a cheery picture of the two main protagonists in the film, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, with Gates really getting an ass reaming from the screenwriter. As for the actors who portrayed these two entrepreneurs, Wyle comes off as being the better of the two at absorbing his character's traits, warts and all. I found Anthony Michael Hall to be a bit vacant at times when he was reciting lines, as if he couldn't quite grab hold of the character. I found the first hour or so the most interesting as we see the infancy of the PC creative process, and how everyone was stealing ideas from each other. Once it got to around the 1984 Apple commercial, I felt it kind of lost a bit of steam. But I'd recommend it to anyone interested in learning about this rarely documented moment in history. What the color coding means... Teal = Masterpiece Dark Green = Classic or someday will be Lime Green = A good, entertaining film Orange = Average Red = Cinemuck Brown = The color of crap, which this film is (From Antares' Short Summations on May 24th, 2013) Star Trek: Generations, a review by addicted2dvdStar Trek: Generations Stardate: the 23rd Century. Retired Starfleet officers James T. Kirk (William Shatner), Montgomery Scott (James Doohan) and Pavel Checkov (Walter Koenig) are guests of honor aboard the newly christened Enterprise-B. A test run takes an unexpected turn, however when the starship encounters two vessels trapped inside the Nexus, a mysterious energy ribbon. During a perilous rescue attempt, Kirk is swept out into space. Seven decades later, Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and the crew of Enterprise-D rescue an El Aurian physicist named Soran (Malcolm McDowell). Unbeknownst to Picard, Soran harbors a deadly plan that includes the destruction of the Enterprise and millions of lives. Now Picard's only hope for a future rests within the Nexus...and a legendary captain from the past. Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spinder, LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Marina Sirtis and Gates McFadden costar in this "cosmic hit that all generations will love." (Pat Collins, WWOR-TV) My Thoughts: I always been a fan of Star Trek... much more so then Star Wars even though that series of movies is good as well. Unfortunately I do not have much in my collection from the Star Trek franchise (only movies 7-10 and a few vol. of the original TV Series as well as 2 seasons of TNG [Damn expensive boxsets!] ). I enjoyed this movie... even though I wouldn't say it is the best Star Trek movie out there.... it is still fun. I actually enjoyed watching the 2 Enterprise crews in the same movie. But there is some things I didn't like about it also. I especially didn't like Data's emotions chip. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfBbpyiK7ds (From Weekend Movie Marathon: 3/20 - 3/22 on March 21st, 2009) "Due South" marathon, a review by RickVictoria's Secret - Part 1 From the very beginning you can tell this episode is going to be different. There was some comedy in it, the hat as Tom pointed out I also got a chuckle at the vacuum and the TV Fraser borrowed, both were broken and HE had to fix them before he returned them But it is for the most part all Drama. I thought Ray acted kinda crappy when he came to Fraser's house to get the money, it did give them a chance for Fraser to leave the appartment (click to show/hide) The story is pretty predictible but still enjoyable. Great ending. The next episode is beginning right now Rating: (From "Due South" marathon on July 28th, 2009) |
