No Country for Old Men, a review by Richlooking to getaway in USA... Winner of the Academy Award for Best Picture, No Country for Old Men is a faithful adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's best-selling novel. McCarthy took the title from the beginning of the poem "Sailing to Byzantium" by William Butler Yeats. The film defies genre classification, artfully mixing violence and suspense with dark humor and contemplativeness. As with a lot of Oscar winners, one is often left disappointed. Best supporting actor for Javier Bardem is a no-brainer - he portrays the relentless unemotive hired gun superbly. But the rest of the film I found rather plodding, with TLJ as the sheriff always one pace behind the action and trying to solve the riddle without fuss. Would I recommend this film - no, unless you go into it with low expectations, then you may feel happier than I did when I finished watching it today. 5/10 (From Around the World in 80 DVD's on March 11th, 2008) My Sisters Keeper, a review by venomsinnerMy Sisters Keeper A depressing film, that makes people cry. So, I got a call on mothers days asking if I would like to go around a friends and watch a movie with her and her mum, I obliged and was stuck watching what can only be described as the saddest film ive seen in a long time. From the onset my friends mum cried, and I could see my friend fighting back the tears, not one personally for crying, especially at a film. it touched me in another way. It was sincere, having witnessed a relative deal with cancer in a similar way, it was very emotional to have it all come back to me in the style of a film. A film that for whatever reason was changed, probably for the better, from the book. Overall, whilst id say this is a greatly moving film, I would not recommend it, to overly emotional unless said people would like to cry through the entire film. But, it has a good, deep well put together story. 3/5 (From Venomsinners Reviews on March 16th, 2010) Charmed: The Complete Fifth Season, a review by addicted2dvd
Stars: Alyssa Milano as Phoebe Halliwell Rose McGowan as Paige Matthews Holly Marie Combs as Piper Halliwell Brian Krause as Leo Wyatt Julian McMahon as Cole Turner Dorian Gregory as Inspector Darryl Morris Extras:
My Thoughts: I just finished this season of Charmed. As usual... I enjoyed every moment of it. Even a bit more so then some of the previous seasons. There is some big episodes in this season. And thankfully they finally got ride of the character of Cole. Yes... I know he is a very popular character... but I just never liked the guy. Other then that, this season has a couple of good two part episodes and the birth of Piper's son Wyatt. Even an episode where the girls are transformed into superheroes... costumes and all. When I first decided to watch some episodes of Charmed I figured I would watch maybe a season or two. And here I am so hooked I made it through season 5 and looking forward to starting season 6. With only 3 seasons to go... I imagine I will be finishing off the entire series. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Addicted2dvd's Random TV Series Watched on April 16th, 2012) |
