Jackie Brown, a review by DJ Doena

Jackie Brown

Pam Grier    ...    Jackie Brown
Samuel L. Jackson   ...    Ordell Robbie
Robert Forster   ...    Max Cherry
Bridget Fonda   ...    Melanie Ralston
Michael Keaton   ...    Ray Nicolette
Robert De Niro   ...    Louis Gara
Michael Bowen   ...    Mark Dargus
Chris Tucker   ...    Beaumont Livingston
Lisa Gay Hamilton   ...    Sheronda
Tommy 'Tiny' Lister   ...    Winston

Jackie Brown is stewardess who flies for a small airline between Mexico and L.A.. Additionally she transports money for the weapons dealer Ordell Robbie. But one day she gets picked up by the ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) and they want Ordell.

My opinion:
While the order of events is pretty much straight up one nonetheless needs one or two convolutions of the brain to understand what plan is hidden in what plan which in turn is hidden in another plan.

Additionally there is practically no bloodbath, which is exceptional for a Tarantino movie.

My Thoughts:
As I said, after watching Timothy Dalton in Hot Fuzz I had the urge to watch this movie, where he parodies his James Bond role.
Also otherwise this movie is quite enjoyable. Steve Martin is almost unrecognizable in his role as the villain of this movie.
This movie is a lot better than Space Jam. The first half of the movie is full of funny movie, Looney Tunes and WB references. The second half looses a bit, but it is still enjoyable.

This series is a based on a Stephen King book. There was also a movie based on it with Christopher Walken. The source material is very fitting as a premise for a TV series. I always enjoyed watching it. The first episode is a good introduction and has many elements which were also in the movie (I haven't read the book).
