MY THOUGHTS

Somehow, this Part 3 is my favorite so far. Sure, it pretty much mimics Part 1, but the fact Jason finally gets his iconic goalie mask just made me giddy. I'm a bit disappointed in how the mask enters the picture. I mean, it is so iconic nowadays, but back then, it was probably just a small joke to have Jason cover his face with the hockey mask. One positive that comes from the hockey mask is that they finally show Jason stalking more. One gripe I'm having about the movies though, and I don't know if it is because they are cut to get a certain rating or if that's really how the director wanted it, but they don't show the kills enough. You'll barely see the knife, harpoon, machete and/or axe penetrate the victim, and then it'll cut to a wide angle shot or a shot of Jason walking away. Where's the blood? Where are the gruesome entrails spilling out? It's a horror movie damn it! Where's my gore? Because let's be honest, this movie isn't exactly oozing with suspense or even scares, it's all about the killings. But killings without gore? I still found the movie entertaining though. I like that they showed Jason more than before, and I hope they keep showing him more and more. He's the star after all. And they are showing some variety with the kills!

This one was a complete blind buy for me. I hadn't really heard about it when it was released and only caught my eye when the DVD came out. I picked it up thinking - Matt Damon, Heath Ledger, hmm... shouldn't be too bad. And I wasn't disappointed. Heath Ledger's quirky performance was refreshing. The movie itself had decent special effects and the storyline was something quite different. It had a couple of scene's which had me  but also included some bad acting from the support cast. All in all a decent feature which I'd definitely watch again.

The Mystery of the Haunted House
Joe and Frank Hardy follow their father on a "fishing trip" and end up helping him solve the case of a former soldier who is being chased by killers.

My Thoughts:
This is a series that I grew up watching back in the late '70s. A series I have always had fond memories of... and I was thrilled when it was announced they would be coming on DVD. In this series they would take turns... one week having a Hardy Boys mystery... and the next having a Nancy Drew mystery. Even though I was more partial to Nancy Drew (damn she was cute!)... I enjoyed The Hardy Boys as well. I believe it was in season 2 that they had a few episodes where they had both The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew in the same episode... usually a 2 part episode that started on The Hardy Boys one week and ended on Nancy Drew the following. Those were always fun episodes.

In this pilot episode, they just jump right into the mystery. No real introduction to the characters... just them getting involved in the mystery right away. I am sure they figured everyone would know the characters from the many books that came before the series. I must say... while a club is not my idea of a fun place to go... the one in this episode looked to be fun... having it set up like a haunted house and the employees dressed as monsters and such. The mystery itself is fairly predictable... but you must remember this show is geared towards the kids/teens more then the adults.
