Cashback, a review by Rich

Title: Cashback

Runtime:102
Certificate:R
Year:2006
Genres:Comedy, Romance

Plot:When art student Ben Willis goes through a painful break-up, he develops insomnia. To kill time, he starts working the late night shift at the local supermarket. There he meets a colorful cast of characters, all of whom have their own means of dealing with the boredom of an eight-hour-shift. Ben imagines freezing time, which allows him to see the beauty of the everyday world and the people inside it - especially Sharon, the quiet checkout girl, who just may hold the answer to resolving Ben's Insomnia.

My Review:
Quirky little British film, written produced and directed by the young Sean Ellis.
It follows a narrative from lead Sean Biggerstaff, an insomniac artist overcoming a break-up who takes a job on the nightshift at Sainsburys. Enter a lot of strange and funny characters, with traits very recognisable in many English people, and some gentle comedy moments. The main story follows his appreciation of the female beauty, and his amazing ability to freeze time by cracking his fingers, allowing him to strip female shoppers and draw them in a variety of poses without their knowledge.
I must admit that many parts of the film I found very erotic, the ladies he stripped were extremely attractive and typically buxom, the flashbacks to his childhood and adolescent discovery of women (through a Swedish student and schoolgirl friend) were sweetly handled but again very provocative, and the whole film feels like we are part of his dreamy existence.
The negatives are few, a football scene was hopeless, some of the dialogue padded and pointless, and one 'time-freeze' aspect that was not particularly explained enough by the end of the film.
But overall this is an original, funny, arousing, bizarre indie film that I feel many members here will really appreciate in their collections.

OverviewIt's the first comet to buzz the planet in 65 million years, and everyone seems to be celebrating its imminent arrival. Everyone, that is, except Regina Belmont (Catherine Mary Stewart, The Last Starfighter) and her younger sister Samantha (Kelli Maroney, Chopping Mall), two Valley Girls who care more about fashion trends than the celestial phenomenon. But upon daybreak, when the girls discover that they're the only residents of Los Angeles whom the comet hasn't vaporized or turned into a zombie, they do what all good Valley Girls do...they go shopping! But when their day of malling threatens to become a day of mauling, these gals flee with killer zombies and blood-seeking scientists in hot pursuit!
My thoughtsThis is a fun little movie from the eighties that shows inspirations from Valley Girls combined with Target: Earth and a healthy dose of I Am Legend

Smallville Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

Season 8: Disc 1

1. ODYSSEY

My Thoughts:
The episodes with other superheroes has always been some of my favorite epiodes. And this one is no different. I enjoyed every minute of it. Not only do we get to see the Green Arrow, Black Canary and Aquaman again... but also The Martian Manhunter comes back as well.

My Rating:

2. PLASTIQUE

My Thoughts:
Another episode I really enjoyed! This is my second time seeing the episode (counting the orginal airing) and I was glued to my set watching it!

My Rating:

3. TOXIC
OLIVER QUEEN, poisoned and near death, recalls his first use of a bow and arrow. Is there someone whose lightning-like data-processing powers can find an antidote to the toxin? And will Tess also be a victim of the poison.

My Thoughts:
Another good episode. Though not quite as good as the previous two. I liked how they worked in somewhat of an origin story for the Green Arrow. showing how he got good with the bow and arrow.

My Rating:

4. INSTINCT
She's searching for a man who is her equal, Maxima, whose kiss is fatal to mortal men, arrives on Earth, looking for her KRYPTONIAN soul ,ate. She locks eyes on Jimmy, will they lock lips?

My Thoughts:
I enjoyed this one quite a bit as well. It seems, going by this first disc, that I may be able to say that season 8 is going to be a better season then 7.
