Review
John Sturges had been directing movies since 1946; he would find his first success with Bad Day at Black Rock in 1951. By the latter part of the decade, the western proved to be his forte. Gunfight at the OK Corral, and Last Train from Gun Hill, had met with both critical and box office success. So in 1960 he returned to the genre that was his bread & butter. Yul Brynner had convinced United Artists to secure the rights to Akira Kurosawas Shichinin no SamuraiWanted: Dead or AlivePink Panther theme.

At one time, I fell into the same trap that other cinephiles fall into; I unjustly compared this film to the original concept film. Over time I realized that this is a great film in its own right, and deserves its place in cinema history as one of the best westerns ever produced.

Review Criterion4 Stars - Historically important film, considered a classic.

My Thoughts:

This one on the other hand I didn't care for at all. They didn't succeed in making me care about the characters in the least and the story was extremely slow and weird. I found myself struggling to get through this film. I almost got up and walked away from this one on a few occassions. They only thing that stopped me was the fact that my injured knee was bothering me and I didn't want to go through the physical pain of getting up.

My PILOT Marathon, a review by Rich

Futurama - Season 1

Space Pilot 3000

This collection presents the entire first season of Matt Groening's Futurama in all of its absurd, sci-fi glory. After accidentally freezing himself in 1999, pizza delivery boy Fry (voiced by Billy West) wakes up in New York City at the beginning of the 31st century. There he meets the fiesty, one-eyed Leela (voiced by Katey Sagal), the beer-swilling robot Bender (voiced by John Di Maggio), and other strange characters. Together they embark on ridiculous journeys as part of a interplanetary delivery service.

Never going to be a favourite show of mine, but my son is a big fan and probably the target audience in terms of age etc.
Personally I am glad to have now seen the original episode which explains the whole concept, how Fry got there, how he met up with the other characters. It helps make sense of the few random episodes I've seen over the years.
There are a few laughs to be had, but to be honest I was glad this finished so quickly.
