May 18, 2024, 05:36:04 AM | Once Upon a Christmas Christmas is coming and Santa's house is buzzing with activity, but somehow the old boy's heart isn't in it this year. Disillusioned with all the selfishness and greed in the world, Santa is ready to throw in the towel but his daughter Kristin (Kathy Ireland) persuades him to give the mortals one last chance. If she can prove that even one family can change and become giving and caring again, Santa will put off his vacation in Hawaii and get back on the sleigh. Trouble is she's saddled with the Morgans, a family with a workaholic Dad (John Dye) and a couple of kids whose idea of good clean fun is putting peanut butter in the au pair's underwear and permaglue on the school coach's whistle. And with a sister who makes Cruella De Vil look like the cutest pup in the shop ready to wreck her plans, can Kristin teach them that what you give is what you get, and stop the spirit of Christmas from disappearing - forever? |
My Thoughts:
This movie stars Kathy Ireland as Santa's daughter. I think she does a great job. This movie hit a special place for me... what with tragedy striking during the Holiday season. So I definitely enjoyed this one. Though I don't care to much for the ending. I mean the ending works... but it felt a little rushed. Next up I will be watching some more Kathy Ireland when I watch this movie's sequel... Twice Upon a Christmas.

Steve Carell is in control as Maxwell Smart, the novice agent often out of his depth but never out of options in this action comedy pitting him against the nuclear scheme of the evil spy group KAOS. Anne Hathaway partners with Max as ever capable Agent 99. And Director Peter Segal ('The Longest Yard') guides his stars (including Dwayne Johnson and Alan Arkin) through the dangerous realm of molar radios, multifunction pocketknives, exploding dental floss and more. "'Get Smart' works as an action film and its funny" (Richard Roeper, 'At The Movies With Ebert & Roeper').
I was a fan of the original series, if memory serves correctly it was shown many years ago on BBC2 soon after school finished, and it was great that so many of the immortal Maxwell quotes sneaked into the film. There is more than a touch of Austin Powers in the film, and Steve Carell is fitting in the bumbling geeky nerd role that he masterpieced on 40 year old virgin.
A comedy with too few laughs, and an action spoof with too few dramatic effects, however reasonable viewing if you park your brain for a couple of hours.

My Thoughts:
A very nice surprise. I really enjoyed this series. In my pilot review I said that the time-travel doesn't effect the present, because this is what I had read and the pilot didn't really suggest otherwise. But that is not the case. The changes that Erica does, can slightly effect the past and present, but usually lead to the same present.Except in the season finale, where she did a change she wasn't allowed to which brought major consequences.
