Mystery of the Wax Museum, a review by addicted2dvdOK... Thought I would try to at least get some of this marathon in. First up... Mystery of the Wax Museum/ House of Wax (1953)/ House of Wax (2005) Mystery of the Wax Museum MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM (1933), starring Lionel Atwill as the wax-wielding madman and Fay Wray as a potential victim. Directed by Michael Curtiz and shot in a chillingly effective early two-color Technicolor process, it and its spooky remake offer you a delicious double-dip in a paraffin bath of terror. My Thoughts: Well... this one wasn't really what I was expecting... as it had the feel of more of a mystery movie then horror. Which is probably how it was meant. I found it to be a little on the slow side... but enjoyable. We will see how it holds up compared to the other 2. NOTE: I will have the comparison at the end of the last movie in this group. (From Original/Remake Comparison Marathon on May 3rd, 2008) How to Train Your Dragon, a review by DragonfireI went to see How to Train Your Dragon last week. I did see the 3D version. I love animated movies in general and usually see the new ones, though sometimes I have to wait until they get to DVD. I have liked DreamWorks animated movies, but I haven't thought that any of them - even Shrek - was anywhere as good as Pixar's movies. The last few movies that DreamWorks has made have been better and that includes How to Train Your Dragon. The story works well and has more heart than any of DreamWorks's other animated movies. It seems like more time was given to developing the story. The connection between Hiccup and Toothless the dragon is what adds the heart to the story. Some of what happens is a little predictable, but it is also very fun and entertaining overall. The animation is very well done and there are some absolutely beautiful scenes involving flying. The characters are interesting, though many of them are more flat since they don't receive much attention. The voice cast does fine with the parts even though it is slightly odd for 2 of the Vikings to have Scottish accents. I did get a review posted on Epinions if anyone wants to take a look. Stars: John Ritter as John Hartman Markie Post as Georgie Anne Lahti Hartman Billy Bob Thornton as Billy Bob Davis Leslie Jordan as Lonnie Garr Conchata Ferrell as Madeline Stoessinger Extras:
My Thoughts: Just finished off the second season of Hearts Afire. They pretty much changed the entire series. Moved them away from Capital Hill... moving them to the small town John and Billy Bob grew up in. I found I am enjoying this new format a bit more then what they had for the first season. I was never much of a fan of the Senator character they all worked for in the first season. But I really enjoy the new characters of Madeline Stoessinger and Lonnie Garr. Definitely an improvement over the first season. Now I am looking forward to starting season 3.My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Addicted2dvd's Random TV Series Watched on November 18th, 2011) |
