The Tomb of Ligeia, a review by Danae Cassandra

The Tomb of Ligeia
Year of Release: 1964
Directed By: Roger Corman
Starring: Vincent Price, Elizabeth Shepherd, John Westbrook, Derek Francis, Oliver Johnston
Genre: Horror

Overview:
Roger Corman and Vincent Price hook up for horror in Edgar Allan Poe's "most terrifying" (L.A. Herald Examiner) tale of passion, possession and PURR-fect evil! When a dead wife sinks her claws into immortality – and comes back as a ferocious feline – she leads her husband's (Price) new bride on a deadly game of cat and mouse. And when the fur starts flying, she soon learns that even in death...she can land on her feet!

My Thoughts:
Have I ever mentioned how much I love Vincent Price?  I do, I adore him.  He's one of my all-time favorites, and he certainly doesn't disappoint here.  All of the cast give very performances, but Price is always the absolute star.  It's old-fashioned Gothic horror, so there's very little blood and no gore. The film relies on atmosphere, and in that it's perfect, filled with unseen menace and creepy details.  This is one of my favorite of Price's films, and it's better with a re-watch.  Highly recommended!

Note on the blu-ray:  While I would have liked to see Shout! Factory clean up the PBS opening and closing pieces they included as extras (which look like they were ported over from VHS), the film itself is absolutely beautiful, with wonderful color and depth; well worth the upgrade from the old Midnite Movies release I had on DVD.

Bechdel Test: Fail

Overall: 4/5

2015 Horror Movie Count: 1

Length: 92 Min.
Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.66:1

Subtitles:

What they say
When an army of evil aliens invades earth with the intention of selling mankind as intergalactic hamburger meat, the New Zealand government calls in an elite team of psychotic assassins. But are these boys brutal enough to tackle the vilest villains in the universe? Get ready for the ultimate battle of flying guts, splattering brains, exploding sheep and guzzling vomit. This is more than just one of the greatest - and most disgusting - horror comedies ever made. This is 'BAD TASTE'!

You have never seen anything like 'BAD TASTE'! This legendary low-budget debut from producer/director/co-writer/star 'Peter Jackson' is packed with all the outrageous action, senseless violence and sick humor that has made it one of the most radical cult classics of all time. Restored and newly transferred from original vault materials, 'BAD TASTE' is now presented 'completely uncut, uncensored and unrated' in all its gory glory!

My Thoughts
Another example that shows you don't need a multi million dollar budget to make an entertaining film. All you need is imagination, a vision, some time and the will to make it a reality. In this case, over the top gore, mixed in with a well balanced dose of humour and a good basic premise all come together to form a good movie, and a very entertaining one.

Peter Jackson is simply sick ... and I love it!

Angel Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

Angel: Season 3

4. Carpe Noctem
Original Air Date: 10/15/2001
While investigating a string of deaths involving bodybuilders whose bones literally dissolved, Angel becomes trapped in the body of a 76-year-old man.

Guest Stars:
Stephanie Romanov
Daniel Dae Kim
Rance Howard

My Thoughts:
This is a fun episode. Has a few chuckles in it.  Definitely not a serious episode... and does little to advance the season long story arc. More of a filler episode.... but  a good one.
