Lisa and the Devil, a review by Jimmy

MOVIE / DVD INFO:

Title: Lisa and the Devil (1973)

Genre: Horror
Director: Mario Bava
Rating: Unrated
Length: 1h35
Video: Widescreen
Audio: English
Subtitles: None

Stars:
Telly Savalas
Elke Sommer
Silva Koscina
Alessio Orano
Eduardo Fajardo

Plot:
Telly Savalas and Elke Sommer star in this surreal tale that unfolds as both waking dream and elliptical nightmare, a lush and disturbing meditation on love, death, identity and the machinations of evil. Now recognized as Il Maestro's final masterpiece, LISA AND THE DEVIL has been fully restored and remastered from the original camera negatives recently discovered in a Rome lab vault.

My Thoughts:
This is one of those movies that get better after each viewing and to be honest this movie is a visual masterpiece. There are so many beautifull image in it like the mannequin, the image of Leandro in the broken wine bottle, the Sophia's dress movement when she's killed or the sleeping beauty awakening in the forest. The score is so wonderfull and romantic that I would like to get it one day, it fits perfectly in the dream like mood of this film. The acting is quite good also, some of it looks weak but you understand the reason why at the end. Talking of the end, this is certainly a good and surprising one... Without selling it I can say that the meaning of it (at least for me) is that you can't change the past whatever you try to do. This film was a box office failure and this is probably because it was badly marketed as an horror movie since this isn't really one, but more a romantic film with a supernatural approach.

When the suave Agent 007 (Pierce Brosnan) is assigned to protect a beautiful oil heiress (Sophie Marceau), he is catapulted into a passionate, adrenaline-charged adventure that pits him against one of his most deadly adversaries: Renard (Robert Carlyle), a ruthless anarchist whose total imperviousness to pain makes him a virtually unstoppable enemy. The unrelenting suspense, breathtaking action and sly wit never let up in this explosively entertaining thriller.

My Thoughts:

Just an average entry in the Bond franchise. Some good individual performances stand out against a story that has been rewarmed many times over, even within the 007 saga itself.

Robert Carlyle was great as the dying villain who feels nothing physically but is inflamed emotionally by the evil Elektra played by Sophie Marceau. She is undoubtedly gorgeous but I found the french arrogance shining through and it put me off somewhat. Always great to see Robbie Coltrane play someone, anyone other than Hagrid, ala Harry Potter. He reprised the character he played in Goldeneye but signed out after this one. And then there is Denise Richards, looking as sexy as she ever has, playing a nuclear physicist which is just wrong on so many levels....  ::) Pierce Brosnan was a serviceable Bond but doesn't hold a candle to Connery, my favorite.

Still haven't watched either of the Daniel Craig Bond movies yet which I hear are unlike anything that came before in the 007 series. Looking forward to watching them.

Smallville Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

Season 2: Disc 5:

EPISODE 17: ROSETTA
Determined to find out where he came from, Clark travels to New York to meet Dr. Virgil Swann (Christopher Reeve), a brilliant scientist who possesses a message for Clark from his home planet.

My Thoughts:
Another really good episode... but then how could you not like an episode of Christopher Reeve in it? I loved that homage to the Superman movies by having a clip of the Superman theme playing in the background.

EPISODE 18: VISITOR
Perhaps Clark is not alone on Planet Earth. A student with unusual interests and powers believes he's an alien - and he wants Clark to help him return to his far-off home world.

My Thoughts:
An OK episode... nothing really special here.

EPISODE 19: PRECIPICE
Clark must do community service and his family is slapped with a lawsuit after he roughs up men who hassled Lana. Lex tries to protect Helen from a deranged former boyfriend.

My Thoughts:
Again a decent episode ... nothing too special... other then it being the first episode where Lana starts to learn self defense. I have to admit though... I don't care much for the new sheriff.

EPISODE 20: WITNESS
Thugs who dain enormous strength by inhaling kryptonite mist leave Clark feeling powerless when they attack Jonathan and Martha. Lionel has a manipulative offer for Chloe.

My Thoughts:
This is a good episode... I enjoyed it. This is the start of a little feud between Clark and Chloe... which I don't care for... and it goes further then it should of... but it does make for a good storyline.
