The American Experience: Freedom Riders, a review by AntaresThe American Experience: Freedom Riders (2010) 85/100 - You just can't beat PBS when it comes to making entertaining, educating & enlightening documentaries. For me, this program and their Nature program are the two best shows they offer. This episode delved into the civil rights protest that began in Washington D.C. and ended in New Orleans in 1961. Started by a relatively new group to the movement, the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), two small groups of blacks and whites would take a trip through the Deep South on Greyhound and Trailways buses to challenge the segregationist policies that had been outlawed by the Supreme Court in the landmark Brown-vs-The Board of EducationTeal = Masterpiece Dark Green = Classic or someday will be Lime Green = A good, entertaining film Orange = Average Red = Cinemuck Brown = The color of crap, which this film is (From Antares' Short Summations on December 18th, 2020) Funny Face, a review by RichTitle: Funny Face Runtime:99 Certificate:U Year:1957 Genres:Comedy, Musical, Classic Plot:My Review: It was S'wonderful, S'marvelous. Ok I'm not a great musical fan, but the Gershwin songs in this are pretty special and I can forgive any film when it has the most beautiful women ever (Audrey hepburn) in it. Definately an up-tempo feel good film, elements of this movie can be seen in the likes of Devil Wears Prada to name just one. Outshining Hepburn and Astaire is a great performance from Kay Thompson as the fashion magazine editor. Very colourful and crisply shot, there is a sense of magic in the production and a cuddly and happy overtone over the whole flick. The only negative must be Astaires role as the romantic lead. At 58 boy could he still dance, but lets be honest a young Hepburn would hardly be smitten with someone who looked like her grandad. Overall this fluffy movie left a smile on my face and Hepburn is just so goddamn beautiful. My Rating (From DCO third annual November Alphabet Marathon - discussion/review/banter thread on November 20th, 2009) Tom's Random Reviews, a review by TomMOVIE / DVD INFO: Title: The Gokusen: The Complete Collection Year: 2003 Length: 325 Min. Extras: Outtakes Production Notes Scene Access Trailers My Thoughts: Yesterday, after having received this series, I wrote, that I only bought it, because it was cheap. It seemed like a series, which could be interesting but had a high chance to totally miss my taste (after watching the opener below before buying it seemed to make this impression to me). I was wrong! It was 12 bucks very well spent! Now only one day later I have already watched all 13 episodes almost in one sitting. This series is about a young female rookie teacher who starts in a school full of rowdy high schoolers. What nobody knows, she is actually part of a feared Yakuza (Japanese mafia) family and she is one of the best fighters there is. But she has to hide this side of herself at school to not get fired as a teacher, which is her life's dream. The problem is, her students always seem to get in some kind of trouble. Now I am sorry that there are only 13 episodes Rating: http://youtube.com/watch?v=2s7TAuASCJ8 (From Tom's Random Reviews on June 22nd, 2008) |
