A Streetcar Named Desire, a review by RichTitle: A Streetcar Named Desire Runtime:125 Certificate:PG Year:1951 Genres:Drama, Classic Plot:My Review: Melodramatic and grim, despite some outstanding performances I was not enthralled or hooked by this 'classic', which at 2+ hours long became quite tiresome. Brando was a pretty impressive macho guy at the time, and Vivien Leigh is at times wonderful in her role as Blanche, but in some scenes incredibly wooden and soulless, surprised she won an oscar for the part. The dark, dirty and humid New Orleans is captured brilliantly, as the apartment walls start closing in on Blanche, you truly get a sense of being there, shadowy and moody accompanied by a heady score, the cinematography is exceptional. In its day I imagine it was dramatic and original, but without being able to put an actual finger on why, I didn't really enjoy this movie. My Rating (From December Marathons - DISCUSSION AND REVIEW THREAD on December 8th, 2009) Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans, a review by Jon
Sunrise, a silent film and a glorious demonstration of a director working at the height of his powers, yet it possibly lost some momentum being released just days before The Jazz SingerSunrise as a swansong of the silent era, but in fact as a beautiful and defiant promise of what is always possible in cinema, an art form able to reinvent itself with every film. Every generation of movie-goers deserves its Sunrise. (From Jon's Random Reviews on May 22nd, 2011) Tom's TV Pilots marathon, a review by Tom
Tenacious D. Season 1.01 The Search for Insperado Writer: ) Director: Cast: Jack Black (Himself), Kyle Gass (Himself), Paul F. Tompkins (Announcer) I don't really remember how I came to the attention to Tenacious D (Jack Black and Kyle Gass). But I have listened to their first album a lot and I still think it's great. I bought this DVD because of the concert, but this little HBO series is a nice little extra. It contains a lot of the music their album.
