Alvin and The Chipmunks, a review by dfmorgan
Year: 2007 Director: Tim Hill Cast: Jason Lee, David Cross, Cameron Richardson, Jane Lynch, Justin Long OverviewWatched: 3rd May 2010 My Thoughts: Some light comic relief. No real laugh out loud moments but enjoyably humourous. A point I have often pondered is why do people never notice chipmunks or other animals running around the lobbies of large office blocks except when it is important to the plot of the film. Another pondering point for me, in this film specifically, is the big record executive and his record company Jett Records, were the makers of the film aware of Don Arden and Jet Records? IIRC Don Arden was supposed to exercise a large control of the artists on his label. My Rating: An enjoyable 3 Dave (From Dave's DVD/Blu-ray Reviews on May 4th, 2010) Buried, a review by addicted2dvd
Stars:Plot: Paul Conroy is not ready to die. Not when he wakes up six feet underground with no idea of who put him there or why, life for the truck driver and family man instantly becomes a hellish struggle for survival. Buried with only a cell phone and a lighter, his contact with the outside world and ability to piece together clues that could help him discover his location are maddeningly limited. Poor reception, a rapidly draining battery, and a dwindling oxygen supply becomes his worst enemies in a tightly confined race against time; fighting panic, despair and delirium, Paul has only ninety minutes to be rescued before his worst nightmare becomes true. My Thoughts: This is a film I never even heard of before getting the disc. But I have been a fan of Ryan Reynolds for some time now... so looked forward to checking it out. I found it odd... but strangely entertaining that the entire film takes place in the coffin with Ryan Reynold's character. Of course you hear others on the phone... but that is basically it. I am sure there is other films like this where you only ever see one character on screen.... but none come to my mind that I have seen. So this is really something different for me. There is lots of suspense through-out the film. Definitely worth checking out.My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Weekend Movie Marathon: The Blu-ray Experience on July 13th, 2013) Tom's Random Reviews, a review by TomMOVIE / DVD INFO: Title: Genshiken: Complete Collection Year: 2004 Director: Rating: NR Length: 325 Min. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85 Audio: English: Dolby Digital Stereo , Japanese: Dolby Digital Stereo Subtitles: English Plot: Calling all Scruffy Nerd-Herders! Welcome to the Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture It is Sasahara's first day of college and a fateful choice awaits him: which college clubs will he chose to join? But Sasahara is no ordinary young man - a dark secret lurks within his soul. For one thing, he knows what "cosplay" is, how to unlock all the secret characters in "Guilty Gear X," what the plot twist is in episode twenty-five of "Kujibiki Unbalance" because he's read the manga, he's heard of doujinshi, and he needs to know more. Enter Genshiken, the barely legitimized Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture, home to all subspecies of Otaku! Now Otaku can watch this complete series from the safety of their own basements!! Contains all 12 episodes of Genshiken plus 3 episodes of Kubijiki Unbalance. Extras: Bonus OVA: Kubijiki Unbalance Featurettes Interviews Music Videos Production Notes Scene Access Trailers My Thoughts: Great adaption of the first few volumes of the manga. I also like the music from the opener.Cannot wait to see further episodes (3 OVAs and a second season already exists) which will introduce my favorite character from the manga. As a bonus there are three full episodes of the fictional anime series the characters in Genshiken like to watch.
