Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, a review by addicted2dvd
Stars: Eva Green as Miss Peregrine Asa Butterfield as Jake Samuel L. Jackson (1948) as Barron Judi Dench as Miss Avocet Rupert Everett as Ornithologist Plot: From visionary director Tim Burton comes a "wildly imaginative" (Julian Roman, MovieWeb.com) fantasy-adventure. When 16-year-old Jake unravels a mystery that spans alternate realities and times, he discovers a secret world for children with unusual powers, including levitating Emma, pyrokinetic Olive, and invisible Millard. But danger soon arises and the children must band together to protect a world as extraordinary as they are. Immerse yourself in this "big, bold, and perfectly peculiar" (Silas Lesnick, ComingSoon.net) experience. Extras:
My Thoughts: I have been curious about this one since the first time I saw the trailer. And I must say... it didn't let me down. Great story line... loved the characters... and the cast all did a wonderful job. Now I never read the book to compare... but going in new to all the characters I really enjoyed myself. I don't know if it is meant to be... but it felt like this film could easily fit in with the Harry Potter universe. I definitely recommend this one... well worth the time put in to watch it. Join Tromeo (Will Keenan) Juliet (Jane Jensen), and Lemmy of Motorhead as they travel through Manhattan's underground in search of climatic love, violence, and the American Way. Tromeo & Juliet is thrust forward with hyperkinetic performances and a cutting-edge soundtrack. This DVD Director's Cut of Tromeo & Juliet has been lovingly digitally mastered by director LIoyd Kaufman and the Troma Team and contains extra footage you can't see anywhere else. My Thoughts: OK... as requested by our good friend Jimmy... I pulled out my copy of Troma's Tromeo & Juliet My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Weekend Movie Marathon: 5/15 - 5/17 on May 17th, 2009) Tom's TV Pilots marathon, a review by Tom
Space Rangers Season 1.01 Fort Hope This series I had enjoyed when it first aired on German television. I had wondered, when they will be airing more. I later found out, that this series was cancelled after one episodes in the United States and only six episodes were produced. I think it was rather successful in Germany though. At least it was repeated multiple times. Some of the actor I will always associate with this series. Like Jeff Kaake, who I later saw in the series Viper (which I still await a DVD release). Or Marjorie Monaghan, who plays my favorite character of the series, later guest starred on Babylon 5. Also strangely, I know the German actor Gottfried John from this series. Otherwise I only know him from Goldeneye. Linda Hunt's character always reminded me of a German teacher I had in fifth grade (and later I had her in Latin in tenth grade). She has about the same height and the same hair style. Rating: (From Tom's TV Pilots marathon on April 11th, 2013) |
