I didn't even realize there was a part 3 to Hostel. :bag:I have seen the trailer at some point and it actually seemed somewhat interesting (you know, for a Part 3). But bad acting (Piffi, that probably isn't jut you ;)) and even more bad effects? I'll most likely stay away fom it now.
The Quarantine movies were surprisingly good remakes IMO. Worth checking out if you haven't seen them.
btw, there's some weird formatting going on with your review.
I have this movie in my collection. I haven't seen it yet, though.
There is a REC 2 out aswell, that i've seen. I will write a review about that one too in awhile.I heard that part 3 is currently being made.

I liked both very much, although the first one is more of a surprise, of course.
Thanks for the review of 'The Double'. I have added it to my wish list.
Richard Gere is a Hit/Miss for me. Sometimes he is excellent like in Primal Fear (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primal_Fear_%28film%29) and Red Corner (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Corner) and in others he flops (for me).
Glad to get an opinion before I spent the money <G>. I am looking forward to it
Dsig
Wishlisted it after I watched the trailer, but since then a lot of mediocre reviews came in, so it's currently shortly before dropping out again.
There are alot of just epic movies from that time! I just love that time. And there is a lot of great movies from the 30-60's i havent watched yet :) something to look forward too! :)A Blu-ray for Lawrence of Arabia is said to be coming soon. If you haven't seen it yet, that would be a must-see. Zulu is great too.
If you have any recommandations, please let me know :)
And don't buy the German release. For what reason ever it's only a single disc edition.
I have never seen parts 2 and 3 (no intent on changing that either), but I stzill thought part 4 went very well as companion to the original First Blood. And even while he was also having some message in there I enjoyed it mainly for the popcorn flick it was. Few horror movies have more gore
Dont forget that Stallone is starting to get old. (too old for a new Rambo?)It clearly shows in the pictures for The Expendables 2 (which I definitely want to see). In the movies he makes it starts to get a bit silly, but I like it when it is done like in RED, have you seen that?

I have the RED in my unwatched pile yet. Havent gotten around to see it, for alot of different reasons. But you recommand it yes? :)I don't know if it matters, but I do ;)
Hehe :D (i just have to say on a personal note, that i like the old parts of Nic Cage better, than some of his parts he does now)No disagreement here.
Face\Off,
I didn't mind him in Face/Off, I just figured his character is a complete lunatic... The best Hollywood movie by John Woo, which isn't really saying much, but I mean it. For me face/Off always seemed like the only film where he could do what he wants. Maybe also in Windtalkers (hmmmm, Cage again, but actually quite calm there), but that wasn't very good.
Yupp,
this site is among the most expensive of the whole wide Internet.
This is indeed a great film. I have this in the first VHS .. William Peterson was great in this. Of course Anthony Hopkins probably wasn't even a SIR when this was made :) It was the first "Hannibal the Cannibal" film made.Anthony Hopkins is not in thisw one ;) Hannibal Lector is played by Brioan Cox, if memory serves. Some people seem toeven prefer his interpretation of Lecter over Hopkins'.

Wich i didnt like, beacuse AH plays HL in the rest of the movies. I dont know if it is a reason why did it this way or not. But i think he should have been there anyways :)

Now this is a bit like dismissing Nosferatu (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0013442/) (1922) because the vampire was played by Max Schreck and not by Robert Pattinson, isn't it?
I understand what you are saying, but shouldn't we be more sad that it wasn't Brian Cox all the way...? After all, Manhunter was first. ;)
Anyway, Manhunter was basically remade into Red Dragon; continuity restored :D
That might be because Anthony Hopkins didn't appear in it. :tease: :laugh:I understand what you are saying, but shouldn't we be more sad that it wasn't Brian Cox all the way...? After all, Manhunter was first. ;)

Except that "Red Dragon" wasn't as good as "Manhunter" :)

Not quite sure what you mean..I said that "Red Dragon" which has Anthony Hopkins wasn't as good as "Manhunter" which didn't have Anthony Hopkins .. but your reply confused me .. sure I just reading this wrong ..

But the joke really wasn't funny enough for having to tell it twice.
This was my 50th review in this forum :)Awesome!
Agree, better than expected and I enjoyed the way the vigilante aspect is 'paid' back. I gave it a 3.5/5.
And you would never get me to watch Dirty Dancing or Ghost f.ex
Sorry about that! :) My bad.Aw .. you shouldn't have changed it ..
I've just edited it now. Hope this is better :)
But i really liked Black Swan, even though i dont like the "typical dance flicks" , and i think this one did what Dirty Dancing and Billy Elliot did not manage to do. IMO anyways =)
You know .. you keep talking about it being a dance movie .. to me this film was more about an obsessive girl who through pressure (internal as well as external) tumbles completely into a level of madness. It could have been any profession the requires near perfection and any body who was damaged. It isn't "Dirty Dancing" :-)
But that is just me .. maybe we are saying the same thing with different words.
We do agree on it being a great movie.
...what tempted me was to see Shannyn Sossamon. She looked like a bright talent about ten years ago and I love her in A Knight's Tale / The Rules of Attraction. She just never really materialised and since then her best is probably a small role in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. I do want to see Wristcutters: A Love Story though.
If you liked "Black Swan", I highly recommend the grandmother of this genre: "The Red Shoes" (1948).I always pictured Red Shoes to be pretty much a pure ballet film. Seems I was off in my estimation. If I remember correctly then there is a Criterion release available for this which I shall put on my wish list.
The Ballet is slightly more in the foreground than in "Black Swan", still it isn't exactly a "Dance-Movie", it merely takes place in ballet and as in "Black Swan" the professional background would be exchangeable.
If you can play Region B, Amazon have it a fair bit cheaper.I can't :( (so far I have two Blus I cannot play :'()
I pictured me it would be something like "Fast And The Furious" or something.
If you enjoyed those BBC nature documentaries, check out Planet Earth, Blue Planet and Frozen Planet. All exceptional IMO.Those 3 are great ..
A movie that i recommand you guys to check out, if you enjoy a good musical or good music! Thanks but no thanks... The eighties were a lot more than cock rock and MTV folder :yucky:
Have you seen Battle Royale?
Oh, nice.. :) Thanks for the recommandation. It's a Japanese film and really well worth it. Given your reviews on this forum I think you really might like it :)
I'll keep an eye out for it :)
And i will not get the Battle Royal 2. Is that a bad one?
And if you guys know any other good Vietnam war movies, please let me know!
Off the top my head: The Boys in Company C, The Deer Hunter, Born on the 4th of July, Good Morning Vietnam and Apocalypse NowNot to forget Platoon and We Were Soldiers
Tarantino was due to play the President of the USA in BRII but after the death of Kinji, had to cancel due to scheduling conflicts.Good thing it didn't happen... he is an awfull director that fanboys find original because they don't know better (those who know seventies cinema know he steal everything he did in other movies) and he is even worst as an actor (even me I was more natural in the amateur short films we did 20 years ago).
He's always given credit where credit is due.Sorry but my only reaction will be :hysterical:
In fact, without Jackie Brown, I doubt I would've discovered Coffy, Foxy Brown, Truck Turner, Slaughter or my favourite - Black Mama White Mama. That comment is just sad :(
For example, when Grindhouse came out, loads of new Grindhouse discs were releasedNot true at all... first that film was a huge flop and deserved to be as it was an insult for those loving the cinema of seventies. Secondly, grindhouse is a generic term for the hipster crowd who don't know better. Thirdly, grindhouse isn't a genre but just the name of the independant cinemas who were located in the 42nd street at New-York. Finally, I and many fans were buying those movies a long time before that stupid insulting film was released...
Tarantino has opened the eyes of many to other moviesFunny because I have never needed an hack to discover new genre, but what do I know? Seventies cinema is what I watch and love so I'm not a part of the dumb hipster crowd.
Also, how is it sad that I discovered a whole host of blaxploitation films after watching Jackie Brown?Because you had no clue about something big in the seventies before a clown made a poor substitute...
That's a pathetic argument Jimmy. It wasn't one as I had nothing to argue about...
Out of interest, which Tarantino movies have you seen so far?Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown and Death Proof (the last two only on TV). See at least I watch them and I even own Reservoir Dogs two times on DVD (I like the performance of Harvey Keitel in this film).
Bloody hell, Jimmy, that's the nicest I've ever seen you in a Tarantino thread! :tease:See I'm not too bad
Jimmy - I think I have an extra copy of Jackie Brown - should I add it to your package? Why not, we never know maybe I'll like it if I watch it not dub in french :hmmmm:
Okay Jimmy - it's yours. Now...where did I put it? :hmmmm:
And before i write what i think about it i got a quastion for you guys that have seen it. Was that Alfred Hitchcock in the beginning of the movie?! Or was it just someone that looked like him?Hitchcock had walk-on roles in almost all of his later films. It started as a cheap way to fill the scene a little more and eventually became something of a trademark. At some point he had to start to make sure he'd show up in the beginning so people could then concentrate on the film, not keep looking or him
But a hard movie to watch at times too. (IMO)The familly scene is sure one of the most difficult to watch...

Thanks for the review - it's one I want to see. Whatever you do though, don't waste your time with the movie of the same name directed by Ulli Lommel. It's horrifically bad.
I just have to agree with you 100% there David!
So, thanks Marie for the great choise! ;)
2, the ending came as a suprise on me. Didnt like that ending at all.If you refer to the last 2 minutes, then there wasn't really much they could do. It is the way the story ended in real life and they supposedly went really close to what actually happened for this bit. Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonnie_and_Clyde#1934:_Final_run) The rest of the movie has more artistic license of course...
Absolutely.I second that.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. :) I loved it when I saw it. The story did take a turn I didn't expect that was very entertaining.
I'm still dazzled by the look of Sully's hair when I watch the movie..and it looks even better on Blu.
I definitely want to see Monster University once it is out. And I will brave opening day to see it. The things I do for Pixar movies.

Hehe, nice ;) You will watch the 3D version then yes?
I too will defently check out the number 2, but since i dont go to the theaters here anymore.. I have to wait till it comes on blu :\
And will not go to the theaters before they upgrade their system!! (You hear that, my city?!)
I just checked out the trailer for 'Dog Soldiers'I would really think yo would like it. It's fast paced, with cool dialog and lots of werewolf action.
and i dont know what to think! :p hehe.
But for a cheap penny, its interesting indeed. :)
Have you seen Drive? There's an odd little tribute to it in Taken 2!
Have you seen Drive? There's an odd little tribute to it in Taken 2!
Yes, Sir i have. But i didnt see the tribute :-[
When\Where is it?
And its a movie that small kids shouldnt watch IMO.
And its a movie that small kids shouldnt watch IMO.
That's why it's rated 15+ for "Strong sexual references, coarse language and drug use", which can be considered as a fairly high rating and should give those that want to show this to their 5-year old something to think.
But, sure, those that even after taking a look at the cover still think that this might be an adequate afternoon-show for kids, will probably ignore the rating too.
Just because there's an animated Teddy-bear appearing in it doesn't make it a kids-movie.
THAT is a great task ... more than the folks at Rotten Tomatoes have ever accomplished
The Twilight film series has grossed over $2billion and that is a lot of tickets. To be honest box office doesn't equal quality... it just means that a movie spent a huge ammount of money in marketing.
- Backstreet's Back by the Backstreet Boys is the 33th best album of all time
And Jennifer Lawrences performance in this movie was just amazing.
I saw this flick in the theater and thought it was boring.Yes it is, not only boring but also unoriginal.
BUT for a blu-ray, (i havent seen the DVD, so cant say anything) but the picture quality was bad for a bluray. No HD, no widescreen. And the sound? Well, blarh. It's a "found footage" film where the protagonists use a 16mm camera(?), bad image quality simply comes with the territory... Similar movies made later on could give the characters digital HD cameras, so we have come to expect better image quality...
I wait for the day that some idiot trys to "reboot" this.I hope it will be a l-o-n-g wait ;)
I have to agree with both Gunnar and Dave! (Can i call you Dave?) Its one of the better movies i've seen in quite a while. To quote the great Ray J. Johnson ... " "My name is Raymond J. Johnson, Jr. Now you can call me Ray, or you can call me J, or you can call me Johnny, or you can call me Sonny, or you can call me Junie, or you can call me Junior; now you can call me Ray J, or you can call me RJ, or you can call me RJJ, or you can call me RJJ Jr. but you doesn't hasta call me Johnson!"
And i wouldnt see a 'reboot' of it. Dont think they could do it any justice.
I like both the leads (and i agree with you there Dave) i got some of Mark Wahlberg's work. And i do enjoy a few of his movies. And i do enjoy Zoey's work aswell. Tho i dont have that much of her work (yet) Really enjoyed the 'Yes Man' tho ;)Have you seen (500) Days of Summer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%28500%29_Days_of_Summer) with both Zoey and Joseph Gordon-Levitt who i think is growing into a very find actor.
And i have to say that i am a fan of her big sister aswell. Emily as 'Bones' in Bones!
Agreed. DVD quality like. And its a shame really. With movies like that.
I own the remastered version, which is supposedly approved by Friedkin and Roizman. The 2009 edition on blu? If it is the one you talk about the transfer is awfull, one of the worst blu ever release. They have re-released it with a much better HD transfer last year, so if it's the one you own you are fine.

Thanks. Maby i should try to read em'. I've heard great things about the books. But is it a easy read? I obv know what the books are all about (since i've seen the movies a few times) I'll check with my family. Maby they got the books. :)They are an easy fun read ..
...and if you start with the first one, don't give up. It starts particularly eay because the first two are clearly children's books. But she wrote them for a growing generation, so while the first ones are for kids, the latter ones are for (young) adults. But it's 7 books, prepare sufficient time...Thanks. Sorry for my real late answer. (Been too much going on at work and stuff :S ) But i've read a few chapters so far. And so far, so good! ;)
But it is very good story telling and I think the actors pull off a very good script.Except for the behavior of the mother! She made me mad every time I see the movie.
I *think* the actress did a good job with the role. Carrying lots of baggage. I have seen her in other things and she played it totally differentlyI don't recall exactly, but I think I agree about the actress. The problem was purely poor screen writing...
Linda Hamiltion's character? Or her character's former mother in law? If the mother in law, she does irk me every time I watch the movie with her stupid stubbornness. The mountain isn't going to hurt them. Unhuh. Sure.

I thought the first Hangover was OK, but I never felt "Oh, I want more of that", so I never bothered with #2, and your review has convinced me that I definitely don't need #3,
BUT they are starting to get a bit too old IMHO to play 'Terminator' or Rambo again ;)I also heard that rumor, that Arnie might be in the next Terminator film. I just hope they are smart ad don't have him play an actual Terminator, like in T3, where he simply appeared as the "model" for the T800.

I am wondering if Stallone is done with Rambo... :hmmmm:
Ok..just saw another one. Creed. Rumored that he will play Rocky again..and Creed is the grandson of Apollo Creed. I didn't see the last Rocky either.:hysterical:
Although, he could be Creed's Mickey, I guess...He did that already for Tommy Morrison 23 years ago...
Looking forward to check out Cars 2. Recommanded!Critical response to Cars 2 was not very good. So you might want to keep your expectations low to avoid disappointment.
Yeah .. i would leave it with "Cars". The second one is okay but just an attempt to create more of the same. Like "Toy Story" (although the second one was fun) they should just leave it alone. But it is a money maker so what else is a studio to do?NOOOOOOOOOOO Nothing like Toy Story. Toy Story is one of the few 3-for-3 trilogies, with every entry being a good/great movie. Cars is an o.k. movie with a lesser sequel. Well, your milage will obviously vary, as your opinion is apparently different.
So the question is - will "Planes" be the same disappointment? It's the first Pixar movie that I am considering passing up. As I wish I had done with "Cars 2".If "Planes" wouldn't come from Pixar but from a different studio, it would only be talked about as a rip-off.

Planes is not a Pixar film. It comes from DisneyToons.
It has been a great hit ... but for me making Mr. (Jim) Phelps (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Phelps#James_.22Jim.22_Phelps) a traitor really turned me off. Just fussy that way :)
Blistering barnacles? :laugh:Yeah, well, I felt a Captain Haddock moment coming on, but I managed to restrain myself a little... 8)
I don't know who told Amanda Seyfried that she is an actress, but he/she lied, Seyfried has the same acting capabilities as Ashton Kutcher and exactly the same mimic capabilities as Steven Seagal and this way always looks like the first walking and talking Barbie.
Just want to add my agreement, that both are great films. I slightly prefer The Hustler (despite its slow middle part), but have see The Cincinnati Kid more often.I think you are right Achim. Overall The Hustler is the better film more gritty and maybe better characters. I think The Cincinnati Kid is one of McQueen's best works. And Edward G. Robinson was very good. But yeah .. overall The Hustler.
Hehe. Well Achim, thats very possible! ;) But IMHO its worth any penny of the upgrade. I'm a fan of the Disney classics, got almost every movie on DVD. But not on Blu, besides i dont think every title will be available on blu unfortuntly. :\Con Air was a fun movie ..
And yeah Dave, its a great movie and Nic does a good job for once (i miss the old Nic Cage, back in the old days, with Coin Air etc)
Not to forget "Bringing Out the Dead"Hehe. Well Achim, thats very possible! ;) But IMHO its worth any penny of the upgrade. I'm a fan of the Disney classics, got almost every movie on DVD. I have to confess that I haven't seen Platoon.
And while the combat-scenes are quite realistic they are nowhere near the brutality of (e.g.) Saving Private Ryan.Well thank God for that. If you had said they were, then Platoon would likely have remained in my unwatched pile until blu-ray players were museum pieces. :-[
It is among the best movies of the 80-ies.I always preferred Full Metal Jacket over Platoon. Sure, Platoon is a good/great movie, but somehow Full Metal Jacket had a much more profound impact at me when I saw it in the cinema for the first time. Maybe it has to do with Platoon appearing way more black & white
I havent read any of the books tho. But i've enjoyed the movies so far, (and i know some people that have read the books aswell. and they have the same opinion as you) Personally i'm looking forward to the 3rd and final movie. Will be interesting to see how they will do it all. Real shame about Philip Seymour. Drugs is a nasty buisness :(Drugs are just a symptom (pretty final one at times). But the 3rd movie will be in 2 parts (this is really becoming popular. Part 1 will be out November of this year and part 2 will be out november of next year
My Review:I also liked this one quite a bit more than the first one. I had been worried that it would be too much of the same (as it was a known fact they would have to "play" in another round of games), but the way it turned out was quite satisfactory.
So, me and some friends watched this yesterday, and i was looking forward to this one. Since i enjoyed the first one. And i actually liked this a bit more. A bigger story, and Jennifer Lawrence has grown alot since the first 'Hunger Games' wich shows in this movie. And this movie will make for a great\interesting movie number 3. If you liked the first movie, this is a must watch. And this blu-ray set got a bonus disc with some great special features too.

Unfortunately, I kept hearing that the third book will not only be made into two movies (why...?) but that it's apparently the least popular book. So, my expectations are kept in check, which can only be good, I suppose.
My biggest quibble with TWINE: Denise Richards as a scientist. Really? Worst Bond girl ever?

My Review:
That was actually a allright and interesting movie. A little different than i expected it to be. Thought we would see more of Mr. Douglas, but i really liked what they did with the story. And there was a incredible twist i never saw coming. Almost a little shocked. A good drama\thriller if you asked me. Check it out for a cheap penny.
My Rating:
I know that I find sequels harder to fulfill than the originals ...And with good reason, since most sequels are inferior to the original. There are some outstanding exceptions, but they are few and far between.
When i get the books, i will give you an answer Mike ;) if you should check out the movie or not. Thanks!
And if you guys have some good recommandations on any good movies from Marilyn Monroe, its really appreciated! Thanks ;)
Just great movies. And we got some great extras aswell. Well worth the moneyI am not sure I agree with the plural here, that it is "great movies", but I quite enjoyed the first one here and I think it should hold up well. In my opinion the sequels got progressively worse, although a) I haven't seen the 4th one and b) I heard that the 4th one may indeed be better than 2 and/or 3.
Title: The Midnight Meat Train: Extreme Edition: Director's CutI was very surprised at the unexpected turns this film took towards the end; they were decent enough ideas not to ruin the film. The gore was somewhat expected based on my experience with Versus, the director's full-length feature film. I'd also recommend his Azumi.
My Review:
Me and some friends watched this (again) last night. And for me this is still a decent horror movie. Not as good as i remembered it to be. But still allright. We have some cool gore scenes, alot of blood. And a Vinnie Jones as a crazy butcher. And i have to say that i actually liked Bradley Cooper in this one.
Title: Seven: Special EditionTo this day, I am still puzzled by the ending. No matter how often I see it, I just can't quite wrap my head around it.
My Review:
I wanted to see this movie again for a while now. And now i finally got some time to check it out again. And wow, what a masterpiece it is. A killer that kills by the "Seven death sinds" and we meet two detectives who got 2 complete different ways to work. And man i just have to say that both a young Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman is just amazing in this movie. This might just be the best dark thriller i've ever watched. And it is ofc highly recommanded!
Title: Trolljegeren
My Review:
I'm actually not sure if i would recommand it or not.
So thats my total grade(s) for the whole franchise so far.I think I read some where they are planning to make the next film (coming later this year...?) the last one of this series.
But am i crazy or is Daniel Craig one of the better (if not the best) James Bond since Sean Connery? You are not crazy... Or we both are.

The original 'The Equalizer' staredand it was pretty good .. had an english feel list say 'The Saint' .. not the same but more like it than the new 'The Equalizer'. Not as bloody. No drilling someone in the back of the head <g>Robert Woodward
