The Human Condition I: No Greater Love, a review by Antares

The Human Condition I: No Greater Love (1959) 80/100Seppuku being the only non-Kurusawa film I've liked him in. But that role is so subdued, that he really couldn't go off the deep end with it. Overall, I'm looking forward to the rest of the trilogy, I'm just hoping he doesn't start to really grate on me.

My Thoughts
Here's a movie from which I had seen bits and pieces, here and there, because it's one of the niece's favourite movie. But I never sat down to watch it, straight through, from beginning to end. Until now.

Well, I don't know if it's the novelty of kind of perversing the traditional fairy tales that is wearing off or what, but I found this installment lacking, as opposed to the first two. Shrek 1 and 2 rank among my most favouritest animated movies, but this third one is lacking something. And you know what, I think it's because we've seen it all before. It felt like a retelling of Part 1, but with Arthur switched out for Fiona. I mean, it is again Shrek sets out to find someone, comes back, gets double crossed, fights to regain what he's lost, wins the fight, and lives happily ever after. Rinse, lather, repeat, yawn! Next!

That's not to say it is all bad though. There are a few good flashes here and there. I like the final fight too. But the freshness of it has worn out. Guess it's time Dreamworks moved on to another franchise. They've milked Shrek for all its worth.

Plot:
Crazier than crack, madder than a March Hare!

Whoa! Hold on to your hats and get ready for one wildly wacky, frenetically funny ride as reality takes an extended vacation in Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi!

Arumi Asahina and Sasshi Imamiya seem to be normal, 12-year-old kids living in Osaka. But in Abenobashi, we soon find out that nothing is what it seems! Suddenly, Arumi and Sasshi find themselves in a world like their own... only not. And as they try to fight their way back to the real world, they'll face menacing mushrooms, big-breasted space pirates, killer kung-fu fighters, a tripped-out transvestite, a sorcerer who seems to be in some sort of midlife crisis... and that's just the beginning!

They say there's no place like home, but this ain't exactly Oz, and it sure as heck ain't Kansas! So put the kids to bed, leave Toto with the neighbors and get ready to dive into the madcap, whacked-out world of Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi!

This is the first time I have seen any episode of this series. It started out a little slow. But towards the end it looked like it could be an interesting series.
