King of the Pecos, a review by Rogmeister

King of the Pecos  (1936)  B&W  54m
Directed by Joseph Kane
Cast: John Wayne, Muriel Evans, Cy Kendall, Jack Clifford, Arthur Aylesworth, Herbert Heywood, Yakima Canutt

A boy escapes when his parents are murdered by a cattle baron. Years later that boy returns as a young lawyer (wayne) with a six-shooter and a deadly aim.

This picture was shot during John Wayne's "B" western period which pretty much lasted the entire decade of the 1930s and which was bookended by two big "A" pictures, The Big Trail and Stagecoach.  "B" pictures were films that were shot quickly (usualy in about a week) and which had short running times of about an hour.  Some were okay, some were pretty good...I don't know if any ever reached the "great" end of the scale, though.  This one would reach the "pretty good" end of the scale.  It has some good action scenes with a few nice stunts (which was telegraphed by the fact that Yakima Canutt, fine stuntman but not a very good good actor, was in the cast).  There's some good photography with some nice outdoor locations.  The plot is the usual staple mixing revenge with a badguy trying to keep the water rights he has no real...ahem..."right" to keep...heh heh.  But it's a decent kind of film kids ate up in that innocent time of the past.  There aren't a lot of DVDs that have nice quality prints of the "B" pictures and this is definitely one of those few so I'd recommend it if you're a fan of "B" westerns.   :)

Warlock 3: End of Innocents, a review by addicted2dvd

Warlock 3: End of Innocents

My Thoughts:
I went into this one thinking I never seen it before... but I have. I saw this one years ago when it first came out... while working at the video store... getting all those free rentals I was seeing everything but remembering very little. And that is what happen to me on this one. I did like the movie... but not quite as much as the first 2. First thing is I missed Julian Sands as the Warlock. Bruce Payne did a good job... but it just wasn't the same. The DVD itself has good audio and video quality... but once again basically no extras what so ever... all you get is the trailer. This is a DVD I got from a good friend of mine for my birthday a couple months ago.

Angel Marathon, a review by DJ Doena

Disc 5

The Ring
Synopsis: Angel gets lured into a trap by a new "client" and has to fight in a secret "sports event".

My Opinion: Those of you who know the episode "Tsunkatse" from "Star Trek: Voyager" or the episode "Combat" from "Smallville" should be familiar with the basic plot of this episode. With the exception that Angel or Clark are more believeable in that situation than 7 of 9.

Eternity
Synopsis: Someone tries to kill a very famous actress but Angel is there to prevent it. While Cordelia can't believe her luck to meet her, the actress can't believe that there is someone like Angel who has never even heard of her. But she also has a problem with the concept of aging and when she finds out, what Angel is, she decides to do something about it.

My Opinion: Angelus. "Nice" to see him again. This episode was most definitively a statement against drugs. But as a man I fail to understand why women have a problem with getting older. I've recently turned 30 and I couldn't care less.

Five By Five
Synopsis: The Slayer's back in town. Too bad that's the wrong one. Faith has come to L.A. and is hired by Wolfram & Hart to kill Angel. Additionally we see how Angel was cursed and how he got his soul back.

My Opinion: Faith can still sweep the floor with Angel. But I didn't like her appearance that much but that's mainly because I didn't like her in "Buffy" either. At least Wesley has become more serious.

Sanctuary
Synopsis: This episode continues where the last one left off. Faith is confused and has no idea what she is supposed to do. Wesley is understandably enraged and now the local police (meaning: Kate), a Watcher's Council commando unit and even Buffy is after her.

My Opinion: Unfortunately this is the last "Buffy"/"Angel" crossover until the "Buffy" series finale because "Buffy" ran on another network from the sixth season on. But I think the change of mind of Faith is hard to believe (given her history). But this was nonetheless an episode of serious decisions. I really liked it when Wesley stood up to the Council and also that Buffy can't rush into Angel's life and tell him how he has to live anymore.
