The Rocky Horror Picture Show, a review by Danae CassandraThe Rocky Horror Picture Show Year of Release: 1975 Directed By: Jim Sharman Starring: Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, Richard O'Brien, Patricia Quinn Genre: Comedy, Science-Fiction, Horror, Musical Overview: You asked for The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Blu-ray and you shall receive it... in abundance! And Let The Film Begin! My Thoughts: I don't know that I'm the right person to write a review for this film. Because I unabashedly love it. Sure, I know it regularly gets listed as a "so-bad-it's-good" film, but I've never seen how this is a bad movie. I love Tim Curry as Frank, and not just because he looks super hot in drag. It's completely over-the-top on every level, and it works, absolutely works, for this film. This is a ridiculous amount of fun - especially if you can get to a midnight showing - but the film works for me on its own, just watching it at home. A personal favorite. Bechdel Test: Fail Mako Mori Test: Fail Overall: 4/5 (From July Movie Marathon: Musicals (Yes... You read right!) on July 21st, 2016) Caramel, a review by Danae CassandraCaramel Year of Release: 2007 Directed By: Nadine Labaki Starring: Nadine Labaki, Yasmine al Masri, Joanna Moukarzel, Gisele Aouad Genre: Drama Overview: A Beirut beauty salon becomes a treasured meeting place for several generations of women, from various walks of life, to talk, seek advice and confide in one another. My Thoughts: This is a warm, romantic tale of love - love attained, love lost, love forbidden, mutual love, one-sided love, the hope of new love, the bitterness of dying love. It's also, and perhaps even more primarily, a tale of female friendship, a tale of women who stick by one another and support each other through the good times and the bad. The film starts quite slow and takes a while to get going. But if you give it a chance, about half way through you really start to connect with these women and really care about their lives. It's very much an ensemble, slice-of-life film, and recommended if you like that sort of film.
