Frankenstein and the Monster From Hell, a review by GSyren
(From Reviews and ramblings by Gunnar on November 10th, 2013) Zatoichi Goes to the Fire Festival, a review by AntaresZatoichi Goes to the Fire Festival (1970) 74/100, who seems to be in the story, just to give Ichi a final showdown at the end. He kind of sleepwalks his way through the role, and I felt his presence halted the screenplay when he appeared. There's also a weird action scene in a bathhouse where Ichi defends himself against a dozen naked yakuza. And while the use of water buckets is quite well placed, the scene seems to be just there for shock and giggles. It's definitely a middle of the road offering in the series, but Toho is starting to get it right. Hopefully, the last four films will progress more towards the better Daiei renderings. Even though I have not even made my way through the second disc of this set yet... this is at least my 3rd time watching this particular episode. It stars a young Drew Barrymore who was only about 12 or 13 years old when she made this episode. In this episode her parents and her neighbors won't believe she is really hearing a woman screaming for help... thinking it is her imagination since she spends all her time reading horror comics (Tales from the Crypt). As I said... I haven't gotten too far into this set yet (only watched 14 out of 65 episodes so far)... but so far... I must say this is my favorite episode!
