Along Came Jones, a review by Antares

Along Came Jones (1945) 60/100 - It's supposed to be a spoof of his films and roles, but Cooper and company barely elicit even the slightest chuckle. It moseys along at a rather plodding pace and even at 90 minutes, seems much longer. I don't ever see me myself watching this again. I had high hopes when I saw William Demarest, but unlike his turns with Preston Sturges, a screenwriter that could have made this great, his time and mine was wasted.

Teal = Masterpiece
Dark Green = Classic or someday will be
Lime Green = A good, entertaining film
Orange = Average
Red = Cinemuck
Brown = The color of crap, which this film is

Family Plot , a review by Dragonfire

Family Plot

When a wealthy woman unwittingly hires a con man and a phony psychic to find her missing heir, the results are diabolically funny in Alfred Hitchcock's tongue-in-cheek mystery thriller. Bruce Dern and Barbara Harris star as a conniving couple plotting to bilk an old lady out of her fortune by pretending to find her long-lost nephew (William Devane). Meanwhile, Devane, a larcenous jeweler, and his beautiful girlfriend (Karen Black) have kidnapped a rich Greek shipping magnate for ransom. Together they're on a nonstop merry-go-round of mystery, murder and mayhem that combines suspense and comedy for unforgettable entertainment.

My Thoughts

This one is a bit different from the other Hitchcock movies that I've seen.  I know this one isn't one of his more popular movies, but I did like it.  There isn't as much suspense in general, though I do think a sequence late in the movie is very suspenseful.  There is a bit of mystery to what is going on, though it isn't as strong since the viewers are aware of certain things fairly early.

Things are slightly more complicated in since there are basically two stories being told that intersect.  Things jump back and forth between the two stories and characters.  I think the plot is very interesting and entertaining.  Some of what happens is a bit more light hearted, but there are also some serious things happening as well.  Characters are definitely in danger at different points, though even some humor is added to some of those scenes.  The way humor is blended into everything that make the story a little different.  Some people may not like that the movie is more lighthearted in general, but I think that works for the plot and what is going on.

The characters are interesting, especially Blanche who pretends to be psychic.  Her boyfriend George gets pulled into what is going on as well.  He has a legitimate job as a cab driver, but he ends up acting like a private investigator, following people and trying to track down someone.  Arthur isn't in the same league as other Hitchcock villains, but he makes a decent villain.  These characters are fine, but they aren't as memorable as others.

Overall, I did enjoy this movie and am glad I decided to pick it up.  It is different from other Hitchcock movies, but it is still entertaining.  I do think it is worth watching.

I did get a review posted on Epinions.

Sliders Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

Season 4: Disc 2

5. WORLD KILLER
It's double the trouble when the Sliders land in a world in which Quinn's double has created a device that has caused the rest of the human population to disappear.

My Thoughts:
This is a good episode... but not as good as some of the previous episodes. In this episode Jerry O'Connell plays 2 roles through-out the episode.

My Rating:

6. OH BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU?
Quinn is finally reunited with his long-lost brother. Colin, but loses him again when he gets caught up in a frozen corpse-smuggling scheme.

My Thoughts:
This is a good episode. As it says above in this one Quinn finds his brother colin... who was played by Jerry O'Connell's real life brother Charlie O'Connell. I liked how they made his brother come from a parrellel world that is so far behind (almost like the Amish) everything is amazing to him.

My Rating:

7. JUST SAY YES
Colin and Maggie find out the hard way what drugs can do when they land in a drug-addled society and accidentally become junkies themselves.

My Thoughts:
This one I didn't care for all that much. I just didn't care much for the whole drugged up world. Especially how they had Maggie and Colin acting when they were in the "rehabilitation center." There is a familiar face in this episode. That of J. August Richards who played Gunn in Angel.

My Rating:

8. THE ALTERNATEVILLE HORROR
One dark and stormy night the Sliders land in a haunted hotel, but the "ghosts" may be more closely related to them than they first appear.

My Thoughts:
A good episode... though not enough "ghost" stuff in this one for my taste. I definitely enjoyed it though. I especially enjoyed the fact that they changed the roles of Quinn and Remmy for their doubles. Making Remmy the genius and Quinn the rock star... though I didn't care for Quinn as the rock star... I didn't like the style they gave him. I mean it gave me a chuckle at first... but it got old quickly.

My Rating:

9. SLIDECAGE
While trying to reach Quinn and Colin's home world and their birth parents, the Sliders become trapped in a lethal labyrinth with no way out.

My Thoughts:
This is another episode dealing with the Kromaggs. While I don't normally like the episodes with them... this one was pretty good. I liked how they were trapped in the "Slide Cage" and had to figure a way out.

My Rating:
